I woke up this morning and checked the morning’s headlines. The first two headlines reported the deaths of Christopher Reeve and Ken Caminiti.
One was truly a Superman. The other, a super tragedy.
Both of these men had their turns playing the super hero—Christopher Reeve as Superman in the Superman I-IV movies; Caminiti in 1996 when he won the National League MVP award and led the San Diego Padres to a divisional championship.
Both men endured extreme tragedy and hardship following their heroic professional careers. But Reeve became even more heroic in real life as he battled to overcome and inspire. In every sense of the word, Christopher Reeve was Superman.
Caminiti, on the other hand, could never overcome the tragedy he brought upon himself through self-destructive drug and steroid use.
