Jeff Jarvis at the Buzzmachine has posted a post-election peace pledge.
It’s a hell of a good idea, but I can’t quite make the same pledge that Jeff and many other bloggers have made.
After the election results are in, I promise to:
: Support the President, even if I didn’t vote for him.
: Criticize the President, even if I did vote for him.
: Uphold standards of civilized discourse in blogs and in media while pushing both to be better.
: Unite as a nation, putting country over party, even as we work together to make America better.
I can’t pledge my support to a president whom I firmly believe to be a traitor (possibley and likely with a less than honroable discharge). So, what do I pledge? I pledge, if the Junior Senator is elected, I will give him the same respect, courtesy, and support as Democrats have shown to President Bush.
UPDATE (the morning after): Barring any freak Democratic thievery, it looks like the Right guy won. Again. So this ‘Peace Pledge’ is a mute point for me. I’ll continue to fully support President Bush and his administration. Especially in the War on Terror.
However, Jarvis’s Post-election Peace Plan takes on even greater importance for this Nation’s liberals, Democrats, and the Media Spin Machine—whom our country needs now more than ever to take this Pledge.
He’s not talking about wholehearted support. More like supporting him instead of supporting the insurgeants, Osama, etc. You know, like how the Left has been these past three years.
So, you wouldn’t take the plegde, but you expect Democrats to?

Ok…You win. I’ve taken the pledge. Have you? Care to elaborate on why not? Or is all this talk about healing and uniting just more rhetorical garbage?
Did I take the pledge? Absolutely? I don’t get why you assume I didn’t. I’m working hard for real discourse and civility on both sides.
