The Man of the Year issue of Times devotes a significant amount of ink to blogs. For the first time ever, the Times has announced a Blog of the Year (PowerLine), and a list of 10 Things We Learned About Blogs (at first read, I thought the article was titled “10 Things We Learned From Blogs”, which would actually make a damn good topic…).
The 10 Things We Learned About Blogs, according to the Times (comments are mine, though):
- Blogging Can Get You Fired–Probably not a good idea to post company dirty laundry, or apparently your own dirty laundry, on your blog.
- Bloggers Get Scoops Too–Rathergate anybody? Powerline sealed their “Blog of the Year” award with the most important blog post of the year.
- Bloggers Keep News Alive–I don’t so much see us as keeping news alive, but rather, keeping the MSM from killing it. Ok, maybe that is the same thing.
- Bloggers Can Be Titillating–well, this just goes without saying, now doesn’t it?
- Bloggers Can Be Fakers–Yeah, but so can the MSM. Again, I ask you, “Have you heard of Rathergate?”
- Bloggers Make Money–True. I make lots of money. Just not from blogging. Yet.
- Most Bloggers Are Women–Perhaps, but it’s also widely accepted that the best bloggers are men. Living in Texas. Who write primarily about the military and disc golfing.
- Candidates Love Blogs–Especially Republican candidates.
- Pets Have Blogs Too–it all started with Cat-blogging. No, seriously. I don’t get this one either.
- Anyone Can Do It–Anyone can jump out of an airplane too. But not everybody can fly. Most just hit the ground and make a big splat. Same goes for blogging.
