One of the best things about living in Austin is the unmatched quality and quantity of music and musicians.
This Sunday night at the Austin Music Hall, Willie Nelson is headlining a benefit concert for Tsunami relief. Willie, along with friends Joy Ely, Patty Griffin, Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis, Spoon, Alejandro Escovedo, and the Geezinslaws have all donated their time for this benefit concert.
Tickets go on sale later this afternoon; hopefully I’ll be able to snag at least 4 of them before they’re sold out at the 3000-person venue.
Proceeds from the $25 tickets, available at all Star Tickets outlets, will go to the Red Cross, UNICEF (”Feeding off the Misery of the World’s Poor and Stealing from the Generosity of the World’s Wealthy since 1946″) and Doctors Without Borders organizations.
I hate that some of the money is going to a UN-linked organization like UNICEF (especially in light of the billions of dollars the UN stole via the Oil-for-Food scandal). And hopefully the money allocated to the Red Cross is for the American Red Cross (vs. the International Committee of the Red Cross). Doctors Without Borders, on the other hand, is a wonderful organization.
UPDATE: The tickets just went on sale at Star Tickets, and I got four of ‘em.
UPDATE II: The concert sold out completely on the first day. If you did not get your tickets early, check Ebay.
