With only one points qualifier remaining in the Gulf Coast Championship Series III, the points championships are nearly settled.
Men’s Pro Open
Only three Open players have played in at least 4 events this season. Alex Hughes currently leads with 980 points (two 1st places, and two 3rd places), while Michael Ynfante is 30 points behind.
Only Justin Landers (two 1st and one 3rd) has a chance of beating Hughes. Landers would need a first or second in the final qualifier at Pleasure Island to beat Hughes.
Men’s Advanced
Only six advanced men have played in at least 4 events. Keith Vest currently leads with 970 points (two 1st, one 3rd, and one 5th). Richard Rash (965) and Brian Pearson (960) have a good chance of catching Keith in the final event. All they have to do is beat him on his home course.
Young Matt Hall could also win the points championship (two 1st and one 2nd) with anything better than a third place finish (If Vest wins, Matt Hall would need to finish in 2nd to tie for the Points Championship).
Women’s Advanced
Only one female Advanced Player has played in at least 4 events; thus, Deatra Edwards is leading the Women’s Advanced field with 985 points (one 1st and three 2nd). However, Edith Horrell has won all three of the events she has entered (750 points), and only needs to finish 2nd (providing D wins) to win the Points Championship.
Advanced Masters
Danny Berry leads the Advanced Masters division with 710 points (one 1st, one 4th, and one 6th). Steve Dufrane (475) and Louis Hall (470) can still win the points championship with a solid finish ahead of Danny Berry at Pleasure Island.
Men’s Intermediate
Only seven men have played in at least 4 events.
Marty Cooper has already locked up the Points Championship with 985 points (two 1st, one 2nd, and one 3rd). John Edwards is a distant second with 935 points, just ahead of Wade Dauner (925) and myself (915).
Men’s Recreational
Only five men have played in at least 4 events. Dan Showman has a good lock on the Points Championship with 960 points (two 1st, one 2nd, and one 8th). David Curry (945) is the only player with a chance to catch Showman, but must beat him by three spots to claim the points championship.
Women’s Recreational
Jenn Daigle has won both of her events (500 points) to lead Karen Crites (490 points). Karen could win by beating Jenn by three spots at Pleasure Island. Laura Karshis and Patricia Stallman, both of whom won the only event they played, could tie for the Points Championship by winning at Pleasure Island (providing neither Jenn nor Karen show up).
