The Gateway Pundit has more coverage of voter fraud, this time in East St. Louis.

On an unrelated note, the last time I was in St. Louis, I was on convalescence leave from the Army, heading to Antigo, WI via the Greyhound bus (I was unable to drive, and as a PFC taking home a whopping $608/month, it was the only transportation I could afford back in 1992).

I was on crutches (ACL reconstruction) and sporting a large, immobilizing brace on my right leg. A nicely dressed young man sat next to me at the bus terminal. We talked for a few moments, and I explained to him that I was a private in the Army, stationed at Ft. Riley, etc. He said he was from Illinois and was waiting to catch a connecting bus to Georgia.

We chatted for about half an hour when he got up and said he was going across the street to McDonalds to get something to eat. He asked if I would watch his bag, which was sitting in the chair next to him. He even offered to grab me something since I was on crutches.

As I was getting hungry, I said “thanks”, and pulled out my wallet and offered to buy his lunch as well. I had but a $50 bill in my wallet, but he said he’d bring back the change and a receipt.

About 15 minutes after he left, a woman and a uniformed police officer approached me; the woman pointed to the bag that I was watching for my lunch-fetching friend.

Turns out my friend had swiped her bag while she wasn’t paying attention, passed it off as his own to lend validity to his story, and then robbed this young soldier of his last few dollars.

The cop said that it was a fairly routine con, and he was sorry but, there was nothing else he could do for me. At least he believed me that I hadn’t stolen the woman’s bag.

Anyway…this remembrance doesn’t have anything at all to do with the voter fraud in East St. Louis…except I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the cons who voted fraudulently was the same thug who stole my money.
