Regardless of your feelings for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, her lifetime of successes and achievements is remarkable—regardless of her race or gender. But when you do take into consideration her race and gender, her achievements are even more noteable; often times historic.

She is the first woman—regardless of race—to serve as National Security Advisor. The African American Registry proudly lists her achievements, noting that, in addition to being the former National Security Advisor, she is “the second Black (after Colin Powell) and second female (after Madeleine Albright) Secretary of State.”

Now that she is confirmed (despite the racially-motivated and petty-partisan attempts to block her confirmation by a former KKK Kleagle), Secretary Rice is the highest-ranking woman in the United States government.

One would think that Secretary Rice would be the poster child for both women’s rights advocacy groups and civil rights groups.

However, as Reality Hammer notes:

Number of times Condi Rice is mentioned on the NOW website front page: zero.

Number of times Condi Rice is mentioned on the NAACP website front page: zero.

What this clearly shows is that both of these groups are so devoured with their hatred for the Bush administration and the conservative Right in this country, that they’d rather dismiss Secretary Rice as a (race) traitor than to acknowledge that she is the most shining example of the aspirations hoped for by both organizations.

One Response to “Secretary Rice: Too Right for NOW and NAACP”

You are absolutely right, in my humble opinion. The situation baffles me. And if I had a milo-fraction of the smarts, fortitude, and experience she has, I would consider my life well spent.
