…No. Seriously? An Attack Submarine?

When I read Chris Muir’s Day By Day comic strip this morning, announcing that the US Navy is commissioning a new attack submarine the USS Jimmy Carter, I thought it was a joke. The US Navy does realize that the name Jimmy Carter is the antithesis of the word attack, right?

I know that President Carter is the only US President to be submarine qualified…but an attack submarine? Doesn’t the Navy have one of those little research subs that were used to take pictures of the Titantic wreckage?

Commenter LC Bunker Buster at the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler sums up the ridiculousness of it all:

If it’s true to its namesake it will have no nukes on board, be lent out to the Palis [sic], utterly fail on rescue missions, and have to be replaced with a newly commissioned submarine which will undo all the damage it causes.

UPDATE: A yellow-bellied submarine. Heh. I wish I would have thought of that headline (fromTechnicolor Western), who also notes:

As best I can recall, the last thing Jimmy Carter defended was a terrorist icon. And the last thing he attacked was an election that turned out to be so successful, it took Carter a week to pull a presidential foot out of his mouth.

I’m enjoying your blog too. There’s not enough conservative bloggers in the Austin area. Nice to find another.

I was going to wait to blogroll you until after I upgraded my WordPress install, but I went ahead and added it after going through some more of your archives. Some good stuff there.
