First there was Rathergate. Then yesterday, the AP runs a story about terrorist threats to behead a GI Joe doll. Now, today, there are widespread reports that the head of CNN news is accusing the US Military of executing US journalists.
While speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland CNN chief Eason Jordan stated:
During one of the discussions about the number of journalists killed in the Iraq War, Eason Jordan asserted that he knew of 12 journalists who had not only been killed by US troops in Iraq, but they had in fact been targeted.
If Eason Jordan has evidence of this atrocity, why hasn’t his own news organization reported on it? If it is true, it would eclipse the scandal at Abu Ghraib in terms of significance and repercussions. If it is true, and Jordan has chosen not to report it, it wouldn’t be the first time that he has admittedly and selectively covered up important stories.
It is time for Mr. Jordan to either produce evidence of his allegations or for him to resign. If he cannot prove these allegations, if he tries to backpeddle away from them, or if he claims he was ‘taken out of context’…he should resign immediately or be fired. CNN will have lost all credibility–just as CBS News already has–if this matter is not publicly and immediately addressed.
