…Wait…Never mind. No We Don’t
Michelle Malkin brings to our attention this story from WXYZ.com in Detroit:
For a number of years now, dozens of Marine reservists have been thankful to park in the UAW’s lot for weekend training with no problem at all - until now.
Marines at nearby Marine Corps Reserve Center say on Tuesday morning, the director of security at the UAW told them that while they support the troops, Marines driving foreign vehicles or sporting a President George Bush bumper sticker were no longer welcome to park there.
A spokesman for the UAW released a statement to Action News which reads:
“While reservists certainly have the right to drive non-union made vehicles and display bumper stickers touting the most anti-worker, anti-union president since the 1920s, that doesn’t mean they have the right to park in a lot owned by members of the UAW.”
Sigh. Just one more example of the left’s lips saying one thing, but their actions saying something entirely different.*
Here’s the thing, if the overwhelming majority of soldiers don’t perceive your words and actions as being supportive—and moreso, if the majority of soldiers do perceive your actions as being non-supportive—then, regardless of how much you chant “We oppose the war, but support the troops”, the reality is that you are not supporting the troops.
If you oppose the war and truly want to support the troops, then here’s what you do: you keep your mouth shut about our opposition to the war, and you don’t paticipate in protests in the streets—both of these actions give comfort to our enemies; you don’t vandalize recruiting stations and run recruiters off of your campus—these soldier are doing jobs that you are too cowardly to do yourself.
When I was in the Army during the first Gulf War, everytime I heard some Lefty claim that he “supported the troops”…I always waited for the pause and then the “…but…” and it was always that “but” that spoke louder than his “support”. And it made me sick to my stomach.
So, I ask you: if your ’support’ gives comfort to and steadies the resolve of our enemies while simultaneously causing soldiers to want to punch you in the mouth, how can you believe that you actually provide support?
Oh, and as for the UAW: Go fuck yourself and your union. Your non-support of our soldiers in only one reason while we’ll never buy another Ford or Chevy until they de-unionize. Another would be the fact that Japanese cars are better.
* If you are on the left and do not oppose the war—you support the war, the President of the United States, and our military’s soldiers—then this rebuke does not apply to you. I just haven’t met anybody on the Left who actually meets this criteria.

IMO, Outraged Bloggers typing (and irrationally editorializing) these incidents nowadays does more to alert the opposition than the incident itself.
