…Wait…Never mind. No We Don’t
Michelle Malkin brings to our attention this story from WXYZ.com in Detroit:
For a number of years now, dozens of Marine reservists have been thankful to park in the UAW’s lot for weekend training with no problem at all – until now.
Marines at nearby Marine Corps Reserve Center say on Tuesday morning, the director of security at the UAW told them that while they support the troops, Marines driving foreign vehicles or sporting a President George Bush bumper sticker were no longer welcome to park there.
A spokesman for the UAW released a statement to Action News which reads:
“While reservists certainly have the right to drive non-union made vehicles and display bumper stickers touting the most anti-worker, anti-union president since the 1920s, that doesn’t mean they have the right to park in a lot owned by members of the UAW.”
Sigh. Just one more example of the left’s lips saying one thing, but their actions saying something entirely different.*
Here’s the thing, if the overwhelming majority of soldiers don’t perceive your words and actions as being supportive—and moreso, if the majority of soldiers do perceive your actions as being non-supportive—then, regardless of how much you chant “We oppose the war, but support the troops”, the reality is that you are not supporting the troops.
If you oppose the war and truly want to support the troops, then here’s what you do: you keep your mouth shut about our opposition to the war, and you don’t paticipate in protests in the streets—both of these actions give comfort to our enemies; you don’t vandalize recruiting stations and run recruiters off of your campus—these soldier are doing jobs that you are too cowardly to do yourself.
When I was in the Army during the first Gulf War, everytime I heard some Lefty claim that he “supported the troops”…I always waited for the pause and then the “…but…” and it was always that “but” that spoke louder than his “support”. And it made me sick to my stomach.
So, I ask you: if your ’support’ gives comfort to and steadies the resolve of our enemies while simultaneously causing soldiers to want to punch you in the mouth, how can you believe that you actually provide support?
Oh, and as for the UAW: Go fuck yourself and your union. Your non-support of our soldiers in only one reason while we’ll never buy another Ford or Chevy until they de-unionize. Another would be the fact that Japanese cars are better.
* If you are on the left and do not oppose the war—you support the war, the President of the United States, and our military’s soldiers—then this rebuke does not apply to you. I just haven’t met anybody on the Left who actually meets this criteria.

IMO, Outraged Bloggers typing (and irrationally editorializing) these incidents nowadays does more to alert the opposition than the incident itself.
True…but a big difference between my style of journalism and, oh…say, CNN, CBS News, FOX News, The NY Times, or the Washington Post…is that I don’t claim to be unbiased.
Blogs are useful for precisely this type of information dissemination—whether it be from the Right or from the Left—to point out events that you feel are getting over looked by the traditional MSM, or to point out inaccuracies in what’s being reported. Editorializing just gives us some flavor and a distinct voice; hopefully not the same voice being parroted by the MSM.
My tag line should be that of Dennis Miller:
“Of course, that’s just my opinion. I could be wrong.”
Absolutely, we need more transparency from General Electric, Disney, Viacom, and Time Warner about their pro-corporate, institutional biases!
How can we expect a profession- whose responsibility it is to question power- to do it’s job when it _is_ the authority in our society?
Oh give me a break already. You take one of the largest unions in the country, one that makes domestic autos (and for some reason enjoy working on them), and wonder why they have a thing against Bush, the Repub party, and foreign automobiles? Why in the world would unions be against a Prez whose party is lowering the minimum wage, eliminating social security, and doing nothing about an increasingly tilted trade imbalance? Must be because they’re filled with traitors. You and your empty-headed icon Michelle need to stop spinning around so hard, you’re obviously dizzy.
I was in the military during ODS also. I was on the Joint Staff during OEF and OIF. I supported the troops, I supported OEF at least, but be damned if I support this chickenhawk in chief.
If editorializing–or spinning, to be more accurate–a group’s decision to control the use of their private property as they see fit is what blogging is all about, then I’d say you are doing your “job” well. You want to diseminate this info, fine. Leave out your biased thoughts. Otherwise it’s a game of Telephone and report will eventually morph into the UAW actively supporting Al Qaeda, which until PROVEN, is not true. (And your faulty extensions of logic are not proof.)
It’s not a popular decision, I agree. Or even a politically smart decision. But they are well within their rights and that should be respected. The more I think about this item, the more I am amused by your outrage about it. Lumping it in with vandals and terrorists only shows how hard the Right has to work to find things to complain about
It is American to exercise control of your private property. It is also American to peacefully protest decisions made by the government; those that turn violent should suffer the consequences. Unfortunately, it is also American to call anyone who doesn’t join the military or support the President (and, by your faulty extension, the war) a coward.
