Michele Zipp Fired

…For Being a Republican

A couple of weeks ago, we reported that Michele Zipp, the Editor-in-Chief of Playgirl magazine, had been ‘outed’ as a Republican.

Well, once her bosses realized that she was a Republican, they fired her.

I [Michele Zipp) also received a phone call from a leading official from Playgirl magazine, in which he stated with a laugh, "I wouldn't have hired you if I knew you were a Republican.

The only thing funny about that comment is that he wasn't joking. That is why they fired her.

Sigh. Just another nail in the coffin of the Left's claim to be the party of tolerance and diversity.

A commentor from my original post on Michele Zipp noted:

But I don't suppose I have to mention that her [Zipp] rational for being a Republican is a little superficial— to put it kindly.

Well, Preston, if you think that Zipp’s reasons for being a Republican were “a little superficial”, what do you think of her Liberal boss’s reason for firing her?

In her email to Drudge, Zipp concludes with:

I just wanted to let you know of the fear the liberal left has about a woman with power possessing Republican views.

Michele, it’s not just women with power possessing Republican views that the Liberal Left fears…it’s anybody possessing Republican views.

  1. “Well, Preston, if you think that Zipp’s reasons for being a Republican were “a little superficial”, what do you think of her Liberal boss’s reason for firing her?”

Ridiculous. Hopefully, she’ll win a wrongful termination lawsuit.

(But if I were on the jury I’d be interested in hearing both sides of the story before I awarded her any money)

As someone who has donated to political causes and volunteered for campaigns I certainly oppose employers attempting to silence the right to political speech. (But I will propose that issues of conflict of interest may arise: would Exxon allow someone speaking out for Greenpeace to remain working?)

  2. But, honestly, you can’t be proud of her rationale for being a Republican can you?

  3. If her stated rational for being a Republican is anything other than tounge-in-cheek, then Yes, I would find that embarrassing.

  4. I went to the link that Drudge posted http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050308/nytu139_1.html only to find that the initial piece was a Playgirl press release- not something revealed in an interview or an inadvertent slip.

Sounds fishy to me. Is Playgirl trying to beef up circulation with the lusty conservative crowd?

  5. I do not understand how or why it is that liberals fear us conservatives. Do we have sharp teeth and glowing red eyes? It may be that these liberals are not confident in their own worldview, but then the question is why can’t they just become conservatives?

This desire of the left to distance itself from competing viewpoints is a pretty consistent pattern.

  6. Liberals are basically Communist, they dont tolerate other views.

Anyone remember when Danny Glover was fired by MCI for being pro-Communist? The Liberals went nuts and started talking about free speech! Glover’s actions was hurting MCI’s business and they fired him, I dont blame them, if you owned a store and you hired someone to work in the store and they were saying things that were pi$$ing people off and started hurting your business you WOULD FIRE THEM!

If Playgirl were getting boycott threats I dont blame them for firing Zipp, but I dont think this was the case, they fired her because she was a republican. MCI knew where Danny Glover stood on politics before they even hired him, but had to fire him because he was pi$$ing their customers off with his pro-Communist rally for Fidel Castro!

  7. I’m a woman who recently started subscribing to Playgirl, and even before her controversial political article, I was totally unimpressed with Michele Zipp. At first, I was offended by her poor grasp of grammar and punctuation. Then, I got to be offended by her shallow political opinions.

The article in which Michele Zipp “outed” herself was a rambling mess of backhanded insults and lame puns. Her point seemed to be that liberals are wusses with small dicks, but that maybe there’d be more unity in the country if more Democrats and Republicans slept together. I guess she’s entitled to her opinion, but the article was almost entirely without interesting thought, and of course peppered with Michele’s usual misuse of language.

I’m a Democrat, and I do think it’s wrong for someone to be fired for their political beliefs. However, the editor of a magazine is responsible for its tone, and Michele Zipp took Playgirl’s usual girl-power, fun loving office slut vibe and changed it to a smug hateful rantfest. She should have realized that most of her readers are gay men or lefty girls like me who don’t want to be insulted by our pornography!

I am glad Michele is gone, although she should have been fired for her poor grammar rather than her politics! For you Republicans who are thinking of offering her a job out of sympathy, think twice and make sure you read her writing first! Also, consider her poor judgement, and the fact that if you fire her, she’ll go to the bloggers whining right away, and then probably sue you.

  8. Thanks, Jen.

That’s was a lucid and very logical response. See, I knew that Dems could clearly state their arguements without throwing pies or obsecenities in place of sound reasoning.

  9. Utterly uncorrect: since I am fed up to the ‘nth’ degree with the GOP-neocon-Religious Wrong….and since she was lousy at her job, I say ‘attaboy!

Funny how the GOP fans and members decry the ‘liberals’ when they finally behave like they’ve been doing all along. LOL Doesn’t anyone care to point out that Fox ‘news’ (for example) will not hire anyone that’s not a Rep?

The whiners are the GOP. They hate it when someone does what they do. Hold onto your undies, guys, because we’re tired of you and if we must drop our ‘live and let live’ attitudes (that you’ve abused) and take a page out of your playbook to undo you – well, eat it.
    ;)
