…Claims “You Got the Wrong Guy”

Last month I wrote about Gary Garlinghouse (aka, Gary Wiseman), who was arrested in Austin in connection with the abduction, beating, and rape of a 19-year-old woman in Royal Oak, Michigan 26 years ago.

Well, it looks like Garlinghouse is now fighting extradition back to Michigan—wasting more of our tax payers money to pay for his lawyers, judges, and to house him here in Texas.

On what grounds is Garlinghouse fighting the extradition?

His only defense is ‘This isn’t me, ” said Chuck Claus of the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

So now Garlinghouse is claiming that he’s not the same Gary Wiseman that fled Michigan 26 years ago. In other words, he’s saying “You got the wrong guy.”

Here’s why I’m calling Bullshit:

  1. One of the marshals who arrested Garlinghouse said, ‘It’s been a long time. You know what this is about,’” said Hector Gomez, supervising deputy of the U.S. Marshals Service. And he [Garlinghouse] said, ‘Yes.’
  2. The very first person to leave a comment on my site about that post was Gary’s son Royal, who wrote:

This is my dad that your talking about and he is not a bad man he raised me growing up and is a wonderful man. It happened almost 30 years ago and he is a new man now…

Don’t you think Royal’s first protest would have been “It wasn’t him” if it wasn’t him?

  3. Another family friend, Britanny Evans said:

Garlinghouse i have to believe is innocent but got scared and fled the scene.

Neither of these people close to Gary “Wiseman” Garlinghouse claim that he’s not the same man that the Marshals were looking for. Because, like Gary and the Marshals, they both know that he is.

UPDATE: Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm has signed the extradition order for Gary Garlinghouse. He should be on his way out of Texas any day now. The last I hope to report on this story is the verdict of his trial.

the only reason he fought extradition is so he could stay in austin as long as possible to spend time with me because when he leaves im not going to be able to go to michigan, i have to graduate high school.

Through the family gossip he did not do anything wrong, he feared that he would be wrongfully convicted and fled over 30 years ago. We all knew he was in Texas but didn’t know where or what his name was. Although this is family gossip and everyone says they are not guilty they are right, we are all innocent until proven guilty. And until that time comes my last name should not be tarnished.
Sincerely,
Gary’s 4th cousin

re Gary Garlinghouse- I went to elementary school with him back in the 50’s- back then he was a nice looking kid whose father was a contractor- He lived in ferndale- and went to Edison Elementary-
Back then, his nickname was “guts”- yeah- and as a 58 year old- his wanted pic-
still looks like him-

val

he raped me in 1966 in the royal oak area. he is a pig. Life would be too good for him

hopefully justice will prevail and the truth will come out. Michigan has a perjury law that are punishible with up to life in prison. I hope that the alleged victim realizes that any false statements put her at jeoperdy. Regardles what the prosecuting attorney tells her. When the trial finily happens and witnesses show up and the truth comes out she will be as accountable as anybody else that gives false testimony!

Apparently the above comment was left by a family member of Garlinghouse. “Alleged victim”, false statements? The only thing false around here is the life Garlinghouse has been living for the past 26 years on the lamb! His own girlfriend and son didn’t even know his real name or who he even was. Now, that is false! Time to get real Garlinghouse family, Gary is going down.

fuck you curious

I have known Gary for the last 10 yrs and even if what he is allegedly accused of is true, people do change. I have first handedly watched this man be a loving father and husband to his family. Being on the lam for the last 22+ years was punishment for him, always watching over your shoulder would make you crazy. I agree, that if Gary is guilty of this crime, like anybody else who commits this type of crime he should pay his just dues to the community and restitution to the girl he alledgedly raped and harmed. To know Gary now, you would find it very hard to beleive this gentle person could ever do something like this. We alldo stupid things when we are young and as we age, we learn…we become wiser. He never ran from the US Marshalls when they came for him. He rasied a remarkable son whom I admire very much and my own kids like. Gary has helped me with various issues in my own life and is very likeable. My heart goes out to the victim and her family. I hope she will be able to put this behind her someday and forgive, but never forget. Life is one big lesson and circumstance is the Teacher!

Gary’s father was my dad’s cousin and while I really don’t remember Gary, both my parents always spoke very highly of him. I don’t know what happened that night and honestly I don’t think anyone will ever know the whole truth. I do know that Gary comes from a good family who loves him very much and it sounds like he was a good, loving father, husband and member of society. I wish him and his family the best and hopefully this will be over soon.

Got something you want to say?
