Michael Schliefke at SCHLIEFKEVISIONdotcom has posted a satirical look at what’s next on the agenda in Austin’s new nanny state of legislation: AUSThIN
Following the lead of Onward Austin, a group that devoted its energies in ridding Austin of smoking in bars, AUSThIN is pleased to announce its campaign to end obesity and fatness within Austin’s fair borders. We hope to continue the nanny state legislation and allow the government to poke its arms into people’s future lives a little bit more.
Very funny stuff. Especially this:
A healthier and thinner Austin means less strain on the healthcare systems, less collective weight carried on our city streets, and will allow the job of Austin’s hardworking and industrious bicycle cabs to push a fitter, lighter crowd around downtown on the weekends.
Hah. That reminds of the time that myself (255 lbs) and my friend Brad (6′5″, 315 lbs) hailed a bike cab in front of the Gingerman on 4th St. and had him deliver us to Scholz Beer Garten on 16th St. If you’re from Austin, you know that it is uphill almost the entire way from 4th to 16th. I thought our 135 lb dreadlocked friend was going to passout at least twice. (Which reminds me, City Council should really do something about the appearance of of some of these bike cabbies…)
