I don’t see how this could be construed as the ‘left’. The man (presumably) wants to cut veterans benefits because they cost too much. This is not a position of the left- we have, in fact, criticized President Bush for praising the troops while slashing their benefits.

Most anti-military sentiment is masked by statements that all start off the same way: “We support the military, BUT…”

Read the first entry on this page, where the web host of ‘forsakethetroops’ supposedly offers to sell the domain to the highest bidder because of all the email complaints they’ve received, and then read this.

Apparently the web host and the site owner are one and the same! He’s just an a-hole and we need to “ForsakeMihaelCook”. Disgusting…

But Robbie, he seems to be anti-volunteer army but ok with the draft. Two seconds looking at his positions makes it pretty clear he has some rather ‘unorthodox’ beliefs.

So I just don’t know what’s the benefit for you to misattribute the beliefs of this guy to the range of liberal opinions (some of which support this war, many of which served in the military). Also, a quick search of the news does not show any article about this.

I’m sure that after it became evident that Crook didn’t exist, he decided to bail on this website before people figured out where he really was.

this morning on the steve and dc show, a morning talk show on the radio, they had the update that this asshole was beat to death, the web site was to be closed as of today at 5:oo pm. i tried to go into the site and it would not go through,the talkshow announced that the cops had two men in custody, but they could not find reports of this anywhere else except his site. i think this could also be a hoax, in fear of really losing his life. i donot want to see anybody die, but that is the circle of life, if he is dead atleast he was killed for a pretty good damn reason> maybe now he too knows what it’s like to feel pain, just like so many of our wonderful soliders!!!!!!!!

I haven’t been able to confirm the death of Michael Crook. I’m still trying to, but at this point, it does look like a continuation of his hoax.

If, however, he is dead…I shall not shed a tear for him. My only hope is that whoever was involved is never caught or has a Cochran-like lawyer.

It’s pretty certain that his “death notice” is a hoax. There has been absolutely no reports of any incidents such as described within his “death notice” in or around the Syracuse area within the past week or so. There have been no deaths resulting from an assault of this nature nor any arrests based on an assault as was described. There have been no “victims” admitted to any of the 5 Syracuse area hospitals with injuries resulting from an assault as described in the past week nor have emergency crews responded to assault victims with injuries as described. No such assault was called into the 911 call center. No police reports based on the events described.

This low-life, POS, good-for-nothing-but-sucking-up-good-air-and-space, piss-poor excuse for a human being, is a major hoaxter and anything that is reported on any of his sites, regardless of who hosts them, should not misconstrued as any semblence of truth.

The saddest attempt at a publicity stunt I have ever witnessed. Checked police reports, newspapers, websites, local television news sites, hosptials, you name it. No word of a beating that lead to a death of anyone with such a name as Michael Crook. Nor any other instance remotely close to what has been described on your many sad sad websites. I can assure you that we are not. I have more than a handful of friends who made it their purpose in life to track this little bastard down. I am one of the scumbags leeches he is refering too. I took a bullet, not real serious thank the Lord, and had numerious near misses. I traveled over 9, 000 miles on the roads around baghdad. I have held children and listened to their parents cry and thank us. I would gladly lay it on the line for my country. It’s ashame he feels this way. His site is in poor taste. If you came here by way of the Troops site, you know something’s up.

Well, here’s the “something”.

After five months of taking abuse for my opinions, and views, I’ve had a change of heart, caused mostly by a story I saw on ABC News this morning, which told the story of a Marine who jumped on a live grenade, knowing it would kill him, so that the men under his command would be spared.

Suddenly, it makes sense. Make no mistake, I still hold my opinions that the pay structure needs to be re-examined, and modified, but that battle should perhaps be taken with the government as opposed to the employees– you can’t blame them for jumping on a sweet deal.

The simple fact is that they are risking, and in almost 2,000 cases, losing their lives for this war, which by the way shouldn’t be happening, in my opinion. Yes, we got attacked on 9/11, and yes we should avenge the killers. But, at what cost?
In any event, we can disagree or agree with the war, but it doesn’t change the fact that these soldiers are risking their lives for what they believe in.

I admit that my site was harsh by many standards, and looking at it now, I can see how parents, friends, and families of soldiers could have been offended, or maybe even hurt by the words and images. For that, I apologize.

I do not apologize, however, for my opinions regarding salary and allowances, but there are many more constructive and civil manners in which to voice opinions on that matter.

At this point, I don’t really care if people think they won. I have plenty of hosts I could go to, especially overseas, but when I see first-hand the stories of what’s really happening to the troops, and how families are affected, I just don’t feel right having a site like that. It actually makes me sick to think that I did it.

In all honesty, towards the end, I wanted to take the site down, and be done with it, but it was a pride match..a pissing war, if you will, with people who sent complaints to my various hosts. I had to “show them”, and get back up within hours to prove they couldn’t take me down.

Well….let them think they won. Whatever. Running the site took a lot of time out of my life, and it was something that I didn’t really believe in, when it came to bashing the troops and insulting them. That was, in all honesty, for sensationalism and publicity.

I can’t apologize enough for the cruel words and images, but I don’t change my opinions on pay, or other things that could be modified within the military structure– those things, however, are not the fault of the rank and file.

Let people think what they want. If anyone can think of a useful purpose for the domains, contact me via IM, phone, or e-mail, and we can discuss it.

Interesting site…

I just wanted to say, as a Navy wife who supported my husband as he flew over 75 combat missions over Iraq (from the USS Truman), I don’t appreciate Democrats being accused of not supporting the military. I definately lean left but I also spend a lot of time supporting our troops; both by volunteering for the USO and by keeping my husband’s place, sleeping alone, and sacrificing my comfort so that he can defend our country.

Please be careful when you equate “lefties” with terrible people such as Michael Crook. Supporting the troops and supporting the war are not synonymous.

I was in tears looking at that website the other week. My boyfriend is currently serving in the US Marine Corps, and his bravery is astonishing. I am currently stationed overseas and it literally makes me sick to my stomach to see citizens of the U.S. badmouth thier own military like this. It’s not our choice where we go and fight, we all follow the orders of the officers appointed over us. If you are against the war in Iraq, that’s fine. There are many warriors out there fighting this second who believe we have been in Iraq too long. I am a military verteran. I served my country for 20 years. Over the last 10 years I have watched as the Veteran’s benifits have slowly been eroded away by well meaning politicians that want to save a buck, but yet vote themselves 50% pay raises while voting our troops a pay raise that doesn’t even keep up with inflation. In the 20 years that I was in the military, I qualified for state assistance (food stamps, reduced lunch program, etc) for 14 out of the 20 years. So tell me again how we are overpaying the troops who put their lives on the line daily to protect this sorry individual just so he can blow smoke up a bunch of peoples asses. What a Joe Nobody this guy is. Wants all the freedom we have but is not willing to protect that freedom. He tries to cut on us while we go to other countrys so incidents like 911 doesn’t reoccur. While we are over there getting shot at, badly wounded, burnt, and missing limbs. He stays safley at home witch we are trying to protect, calling us pathetic, pukes, and a waste of gov. money. Well I would hate to waste gov. money so I think some of us pathetic soldiers should pay him a visit, and protect our people by beating the shit out of him. That way maybe our efforts wouldn’t be such a waste, and Americans, true Americans can truely be protected.

I have but one recommendation in regards to this Micheal Crook, aka. Scott Vogel.

Ignore him, don’t go to his sites…he wants the publicity. I would even dare say he thrives on it…let’s face it, he isn’t worth it. If everyone avoids his sites he doesn’t have high enough counts to sell them, therefore fades away. Quite frankly, I don’t even really want to waste the time talking or typing about him…but I’m not doing this for him but for the rest of you.

I was most desheartened to read that the death of Mr. Cook was indeed a hoax. In my opinion, if he had died, great. So much the better for the country.
