There are a bunch of “black rights” and “womens rights” and “gay rights” and “[insert label here] rights” groups in the Left, looking for special treatment in the name of “equality”. Frankly, the white male is the most oppressed in our multi-culti, victim-creating culture. Whether or not this oppression is “historical” is rather besides the point. One need only look at the 60’s to see Democrats battling Democrats on issues like civil rights. One can look today at lefties like Leiberman and Zell Miller who somehow manage to battle their own party without distancing themselves from it.

But of course, this is all a smoke screen. The real issue is the most basic: only a Leftie would disparage the military like this. It’s a duck. Quack, quack. While I appreciate your condemnation of this asshole, Preston, it would look better if you’d condemn him with the truth: he’d consider you to be on his side.

(And as for Hitler, the totalitarian central government he endorsed, along with the socialism, is entirely the wet dream of the far Left. Most of them would just prefer a better guy at the top. By contrast: pure Right-Wingedness involves total anarchy.)

Jason- I’m sorry you feel that way. By ‘oppressed’ you can’t mean economically: whites have 10 times the wealth of African-Americans.

I’m sure some white people feel under assault when the advantages they grew up taking as their birthright are removed and when times are tough it’s easy to blame the next guy down. But the facts don’t bear out your statement.

If you think a centralized totalitarianism is a left-wing dream you haven’t been to places like NYC or Berkeley where the 60’s left wing movement decentralized power so much that it paralyzed government. Or you’ve never worked with a bunch of lefties where every. single. thing. was. debated. That’s the lefty wet dream. unfortunately. By experience working with far right winger provided the opposite experience.

Look there are a lot of left wing pacifists but very few have anything but respect for the working class soldiers: those are our people- getting by from paycheck to paycheck even in tough times. (May I refer you to our troop ’supporting’ Republican Congress that *specifically* defeated proposals to allow active military to declare bankruptcy when their service caused economic hardship. When there was a choice between the troops and the credit card companies the Republican party didn’t think twice.)

Just a note, “active military service” does not cause economic hardship. Soldiers are compensated sufficiently to make ends meet. And soldiers at war earn more than they do during peace time.

Soldiers know and understand their pay scale and structure. When they join the Army or the Marines, they know they are not going to be making very much money. And they make their lives accordingly. Those who need to file bankruptcy do so because they failed to manage their money. NOT because they were on active duty.

The notion of “active duty” causing economic hardship is purely a left-wing talking point.

Of the 209 million adults in our country, 1.6 million file for bankruptcy every year — which is what? Approximately .75% of the adult populaton?

By contrast, 16,000 US Soldiers file for Bankruptcy each year of the 2.7 million members of the Armed Forces (active duty and ready reservists and National Guard members combined) — which is about .6% of the military.

So, the military has a lower rate of bankuptcy fillings each year than the average adult in the US.

I would agree that reserve or National Guard soldiers should be afforded some additional bankruptcy protection if they are called up to active duty for an extended peiod of time (the folks at Durbin don’t differentiate how many of those 16K bankruptcies were by full-time Active duty soldiers — and not by reserve or guard soldiers called up to active duty).

Aren’t numbers fun when you can use just the ones you want to support your opinion?

I don’t believe that active duty soldiers need extra bankruptcy laws afforded to them that are not afforded to everyone else.

Oh, and I know you were being glib…but Michael Crook and I have nothing in common.

What is the only ethnic/social group that can still be routinely dissed? The ecnomincally poor, white “redneck”. Similarly poor blacks and hispanics can get aid and scholorships to go to college, but the white guy has to stay in the gutter because of the color of his skin, because of things that happened before he or his parents were born, and because of all the aged, wealthy people who benefitted from conditions that no longer exist. That doesn’t seem fair to me.

Even if that’s true (which I doubt), there are even more on the left who have nothing but disdain and contempt for the military, and they’re hardly pacifist. Most of them are busy trying to bring back the Draft by shutting down recruiters and recruitment centers. Others frequent DU.

As for Durbin’s “G.I. Protection Amendment”, much of it was already in existence. Federal law already shields active-duty personnel from most civil actions regarding their finances. The Republicans rejected it in favor of another amendment that also protected people with serious medical conditions. But if you’ll read it, you’ll note that it takes much from Durbin’s original amendment.

Just another case of politics getting in the way of the facts.

I agree- class needs to be dealt with along with race. That’s why I vote Democratic: I support policies that help *working* Americans and those who want to work.

For instance:
1. Earned Income Tax Credit helping workers in low paying jobs.
2. Equitable education funding: so that being a child in a poor district doesn’t mean getting a poor education.
3. Lower college tuition at state schools
4. Readily available Pell Grants and student loans
5. Higher minimum wage
6. Head Start
7. Training programs for the unemployed
8. Balancing the budget- so interest rates are low, stimulating the economy

These are all policies that could help poor people regardless of race. They are all opposed by Republicans. When Republicans start talking about real solutions to helping ‘rednecks’ (beyond tax cuts for millionaires and ending Affirmative Action, I’ll start listening.)

But class isn’t the whole story: it was *illegal* for black people of my parents generation to go to the state college where my mother lives. *Illegal* just one generation ago to better yourself by getting a decent education. You think that burden hasn’t been passed to their children? That their children shouldn’t get _some_ small leg up in this society that kept them down for over 300 years?

One of the greatest gifts to me from my parents was being raised by educated, successful (though not wealthy) people. Our government denied that gift to millions of African Americans living today.

Not exactly.

While active duty personnel do get a raise for going into a combat zone reservist, which make up a sizeable portion of the deployed troops do not.

Some reservist make two or three times the average soldiers pay in their “real” jobs.
There is nothing that says that they will continue to earn at that level when activated

I’m married to a military member, and in Nov will have 16 years of service myself. I’m moving my kids around, being deployed in the hot zone 2 times—times, numerous hardships and seperations—sure this is the life I chose. It’s a good thing I did, huh Mikey?

Pardon me, but the guy is an idiot. The lines between left and right have switched so many times that it is sometimes hard to keep them straight - ask anyone who’s been around a while. This is not a political statement that he is making, and giving it a political cast just legitimizes it.

As to the political issues that you raised that are real, I think you both have a little too much testosterone flowing (joke). As a member of a group that was not allowed to vote until 50 years after African American men (Amendment XV, 1870 vs. Amendment XIX, 1920), and for whom going to college was also *illegal* during those 50 years, and as a member of a group that makes 70% of the wages of the men of any color in professional jobs and 50% in sales positions (Dept. of Labor, 2001), I think I can safely say that neither the right nor the left have all the answers, and both seem to be speaking primarily for the male constituency.

I am a liberal right or a conservative left, depending upon which of my parents you are speaking to, and have to say that extremists of any sort are bad.

I am an enlisted active duty Marine stationed in North Carolina. I would like to point out to those who might agree with Mr. Cook that to believe this way is your right, to speak on it is your priviledge. I rejoice in the fact that, even if you are misguided or even as in this case, a complete waste of flesh, that you may speak your mind on whatever topic you wish, from whatever angle you wish, and not recieve any GOVERNMENT retribution for doing so. You’re welcome.
HOWEVER, if you are representing a clear and present danger to yourself, embarrasing your family name, making yourself a target for ridicule (or personal retribution), then you might want to rethink the way in which you PRESENT your thoughts of people like myself. You may want to become aquainted with the use of firearms or the martial arts yourself in case you ever run into a family member of one of my fallen brothers. You might want to not go anywhere by yourself for a LONG TIME seeing as many people whom you have offended are quite adept at QUIETLY making peolple disappear. Michael Crook, I believe, may abide in America. But he is no more an American than any member of an opposing force might be. I can’t think of a single group of American’s that would claim Mr. Crook as one of their own. As a matter of fact, I can’t think of a single Life-loving member of the human race that would claim him as one of their own.
Also, I think that while perhaps it is improper to threaten Michael Crook outright, it might be worth noticing that while many individuals can vent their anger and frustration through peaceful mediums, such as the internet, there are other individuals out there who have either no access to this medium, or no desire to vent their feelings through it. When I first saw the vile that fuck knuckle was spewing, my first thought was that he’s an attention hound. A chicken-shit failure of a man that relies on the courage of the Man from Oz to get his happy juice flowing.

A casual observation….he’s very likely the first to screem like a girl when the shit hits the fan, and the first to cry foul to the ACLU when his site is vaporized by true team work. Ultimately, that’s what it boils down to…his inability to stand up for something instead of just representing an asinine flamethrower of opinions.

He has no idea of what it’s like to know from the bottom of one’s soul, to offer his or her life for another, without reservation…for God, Country and Family. The ultimate true expression of selfless service and love. Love for country, and those that believe in what she stands for.

At first I thought that, if I ever ran into the mouse in Syracuse I’d pummel the ass cracker into a soiled diaper and take my lickings with the law afterwards. Thank God that my wife has more control over MY emotions than I do. Although the fan mail would be nice….ruining my 26 year career as an officer would be less than stellar. I think I’d just say something bullish like, “Hey ass-monkey, the 70’s called and they want their hair back….or tell him he’s got a rubber hanging out the back of his waistband” I can never think of the snappy shit until I walk away.

I had the emotional and heart wrenching responsibility to assist the command on two briefings to families of deceased pilots. Even though the tragedy was a train wreck to the families, they all supported what their loved ones were doing at the time, when they paid the ultimate sacrifice. That’s something that Michelle Cruok will never understand…not in a lifetime of explanation. Nuff said…

I’m sure I’ve come in far too late in this conversation, however Reparations were already made in the ’60s actually. They restructured the entire social security system to cater more to poor blacks, and affirmative action in the workplace and in acadamia(to the point where free speech is actually compromised) was enacted(though poorly enforced until the 80s-90s) for the goal of greater social equality.

As for the issue of Michael Crook: Who cares? His stunts aren’t representative of either party of our two party system. Most Democrats don’t hate US soldiers, the concept war is the disdainful part. And most republicans I know aren’t racist Holocaust deniers. Crook should still be allowed to post his bullshit provided he finds a person to publish or self publish regardless of his wrongheaded beliefs. Freedom of speech is more important than someone’s feelings being hurt. He publishes half the shit so people will know his name to the extent that he doesn’t actually have to work for a living.

I mean he’s trying to peddle a book now. He’s still just trying to get attention to generate add revenue and book sales. I doubt he even believes anything that he claims, he just knows that people wil respond to it. Maybe we should take up a collection for him, or give the salvation army his address or something, I mean he’s always talking about money and the like. Once nature takes it’s course and this world is rid of this trash, he’ll be forgotten because he won’t be around to stir things up. What a sad way to live.

I’d love to see this guy actually join the military. Let him work 48 hrs straight, like some of our men and women in the service do, and take home a paycheck that is less than $1,000 a month. Let him try to “live” off base with out a BAH. Let him get deployed and watch his best friends bleed to death, let him learn to use an M16 and see if he freezes up when he is shot at. People forget being in the military is a 24/7 job, break that down it’s less than min wage an hour in almost all states, if not all- never ran the numbers. You don’t get to go in at 9am and leave at 5pm, and only work 5 days a week. The military is not paid enough for as much as they do, as much as they sacrifice.

Please! This guys only gripe should be that he is to much of a pussy to EARN the freedom he has. He is like alot of people this day and age who don’t know what it’s like to not have that FREEDOM, so they take it for granted. Usually they are too ignorant to even realize that. Try spending time with some people that were around for WWII, do you hear them talking or acting like this fool??? I think not, because the “get it”.

I just wanted to tell you, and your readers, that he started messing with Ocala, Fl which is were I have lived for over 30 years now, and since he did and pissed me off so, I have managed to shut him down. he is back on worldpress, how ever, we did get godaddy.com, and ALL of his sponsor’s to dump him.
