I wrote here that the Fox reality show Cops is currently filming in Austin.
One of the Lunatics at DU has this conspiracy theory about the show (which has aired since 1989):
Most of you probably know about Fox TV’s “Cops,” a reality show in which the cameras follow law-enforcement officers chasing, busting, and arresting essentially underclass suspects (or “criminals” in Fox’s case, as they are already seen as guilty).
I’ve seen the show a couple of times – about as much as I could take – and it seems to me that the arrests are made while intentionally not showing the reading of the Miranda Rights. They make arrest after arrest after arrest – and no Miranda Rights are seen in the video footage.
My pet theory is that this is subtle Fox propaganda. The show is trying to get the viewing public desensitized to the arrest of citizens, that they are already guilty, have no rights, and the Miranda Rights don’t matter or don’t even exist.
I don’t know about y’all, but I found the lack of Miranda Rights in the show to be glaring … and revealing.
And you really have to ask why we call them the unhinged-left?
First of all, Fox does occasionally show a suspect being read their Miranda rights. But not always. Why? Because it makes for boring TV. And COPs is an entertainment show. Not a documentary about your civil rights after being apprehended for taking police on a 30-minute high-speed chase culminating in them seizing two guns, a knife, and a bag of crack off your person…all the while resisting arrest and screaming for your lawyer.
Second, if you have watched the show and walked away thinking anything other than: damn those criminals are stupid and repugnant and guilty as hell (”Sir, we have you on video punching your wife in the face.”)—well, the ACLU would like to hire you, because you are a gullible idiot.

And the show starts, along with “Bad Boys”, by saying, “All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” or something to that effect.
The show probably isn’t all that popular at DU because it shows that police are doing real work as opposed to enforcing the Bush Hegemony.
