UPDATE (June 10, 2008) — with only one week left before Charles Hood is executed, I’m closing all comments on all previous posts. I have started a new post HERE for all new comments about this story.
______
Charles Dean Hood is scheduled to be executed after 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30th for the 1990 murder of Roland Williamson, 40, and his 26 year-old girlfriend, Traci Lynn Wallace in Plano, TX.
The DNA evidence (Hood’s bloody fingerprints all over the crime scene) and the circumstantial evidence (after the murder, Hood pawned the victims’ jewelry, cashed the victim’s checks, used the victim’s credit cards, and was caught 800 miles from Plano driving the victim’s truck) were strong enough for a jury to convict Hood of the duel murders and sentence him to death.
I wrote about Hood’s personal ads here, where Hood is seeking pen pals who are “looking for a great time”, and where he describes himself as a man of “good character”.
Whenever I write about a death row inmate, inevitably the loonies come out of the woodwork to claim that the condemned is a changed man, and is now somehow a good person who doesn’t deserve to die.
Well, the idiots are out for Charles Dean Hood, too. Several are claiming that he is a man of good character, and one is even claiming that he has proof of Hood’s innocence (I’m sure Hood would have appreciated you coming forward with this evidence at his trial).
My response to those who would defend Charles Dean Hood’s character is that people of good character don’t shoot two other people to death. They just don’t. It’s one of those things.
According to the Texas Attorney General, killing people isn’t the only mark against Hood’s “good character”:
PRIOR CRIMINAL HISTORY
Hood pled guilty to theft and forgery when he was eighteen, and was sentenced to two years in the Indiana Department of Corrections. Hood was paroled, but violated that parole when he went to Texas with his fifteen year old runaway girlfriend.
Theft and forgery, and running away with a 15-year old little girl?
To those of you still defending this man’s character, I gotta know: what do you consider to be a person of bad character? If a double-homicide, theft, forgery, and statutory rape isn’t enough, what is?

Mr. Robbie:
I did a search on Mike Graczyk thinking he might try to take advantage of Roger Williamson. However, it appears he is one of a dying breed of reporter, in that he is fair and just reports the facts. Kudos to you, Mr. Graczyk.
