I’d be remiss if I didn’t congratulate Coach Augie Garrido and the Texas Longhorns baseball team on sweeping through the College World Series (5-0) to win the National Title for the second time in three years.

Light that Tower Orange

One of the great traditions here at the University of Texas is the lighting of the clock tower. The tower, which is lit up completely white on most days, was lit all orange with a white #1 to signify that the University has won a national championship.

Note: When the clock tower is lit with a white top and orange shaft, the university has received an academic honor; football victories have an orange top and white shaft; and the tower is all orange for victories over Texas A&M, September 15th, and national championships. All other days the tower is completely white.

The final 6-2 victory over Florida on Sunday garnered the Longhorns their 6th National Championship in baseball, second all time only to USC.

Already the winningest coach in Division I baseball history, Garrido hit the 1,500-win mark earlier this season…which also means that Coach Garrido has won more games in college sports than any other coach in any other sport. Ever.

Coach Garrido, when asked what 1,500 wins meant to him, said:

The essence of what I am is because of others. It took me a long time to get there. I didn’t find out the importance of my thoughts and ideals yesterday. I honestly don’t care about the number. It doesn’t define me. But it does define the commitment and intelligence and skill of all the people I’ve been in contact through my coaching career.

Congratulations Coach and players!
