Bull Moose has some advice for his fellow Democrats in his post about the John Roberts Jr. nomination:

While abortion is clearly a critical issue, Democrats should also develop a compelling narrative that explains what is the impact of a right wing court on the everyday lives of Americans. In addition, the donkey should also be making the argument that there must be a check on the Republican lock on all three branches of government.

Dear Bull Moose,

That check already exists. They occur every time there is an election in this country.

That doesn’t seem to be working. Not when public opinion on most issues is much closer to the Democrats than the Republicans. Not when approval of the government is in the gutter.

Yes, as if Democrats ever cared about the opinion of the American people unless it was an election year. ;-)

It’s an interesting time. I don’t remember ever paying much attention to Supreme Court appointments before this one. The media and special interest groups have changed all that. Americans now realize that every appointment is critical to their lives and the lives of their children, etc. Can you imagine Ginsberg being appointed today? A former lawyer for the ACLU! The right would have gone nuts (and so would I). Too late. I wasn’t paying attention then, but I sure as heck as now.

Once again, Ginsberg was suggested to President Clinton by Orrin Hatch (R)-UT.

Clinton had floated several other names by Hatch who found them unacceptable. Clinton then listened to the minority party’s opinion and his nominees sailed through the Senate.

And that was back before we had a president who was a ‘uniter’…

No, most polls are demonstratively biased towards giving answers which seem favorable to the democrats.

Preston …you sound bitter these days…and where the hell have you been anyhow??? You only pop in now and then.

Despite what you may think, you make me think! Hey, if I never hear another side of the story, it’s pretty dull reading.

Of course that doesn’t change my attitude…

I don’t need Bush to lead me as a uniter…I already know what I want. The benefit of living over half a century…

Sweet dreams…go out and smell the roses….and never forget what makes you happy :-)
