I didn’t follow the link to the story, but didn’t get any indication of the race of the confessed murderer or the victims. I was a bit surprised by Black Panther’s allegation of racism, considering there isn’t any reference to race in the post.

I can’t find any information about the race of the Porter’s, but Carty and Smith were both white.

Sterling is black.

I don’t know what you been trough but have that view of people is dangerous.

Remember that most people on the death row is poor and coming from weak groups of the community. Can you please explain why Texas have 6 % black people in their state when there are more then 60% on death row? And no, the black do not commit more captial crimes then white people. Don’t tell me the justice system isn’t racist! You can’t make no excuse. You are republican and they are the ones who have ruled Texas the last decades.

I’ve bookmarked this blog cause I think it will bring enjoyable reading and discusses in the future. I’m not against the DP totally. But the prosecutors often brings manslaughter to captial murder cause the race of the offender, which is wrong.

The DP is good for child-killers, terrorists, genocides and some terrible rape and murder crimes. I think robbery-murders shall be looked as manslaughter and long there is no proves that the offender actually planned to kill the victim.

I’m from Sweden and here we have way to weak punishments. The maximum sentence here is 14 years (actually called life in prison) but most of the killers get 10 years in prison which means they will be on parole when they served 6 years of their sentence.

Life without parole is a great option for the DP. Now Texas just need to get rid off that son of a bitch; Governor Kerry…

I am a grandson-inlaw of Mr. Carty. My mother and stepdad have just left Huntsville. Mr. Sterling showed no remorse before he died. The two brothers he killed were black for which he received life. The reason he got death was because he committed a murder during a felony which is automatically a capital offense, so don’t turn this into a racial issue. God says as Christians we are to obey the laws of the land therefore he got what he deserved. Now he will have to answer to God for his actions.

This came from my stepdad as he left the Walls Unit. He said Mr. Sterling was waiting on them when they walked in and asked “Can they hear me?” The warden didn’t respond. Then Sterling said “Ya’ll have been deceived and you will find out the truth” all the while smiling as the drugs began flowing.

You have so much hatred in your heart. Some or most of the men on deathrow committed these acts while high on drugs, alcohol or some kind of mind altering substance. I’m not here to justify their acts. However, you sound worse than they do. Wishing someone dead is just as bad as commiting the act itself.

So, what makes you think you’re any different from a convicted killer?

Mr. Sterling faced up to his wrong doing, paid for it and apologized. A lot more than many other people in the free world. No one is perfect. We ALL make mistakes. Some worse than others. I’m no one to judge. I believe we all pay for our mistakes sooner or later. I’m not judging you. I just hope you can search deep within yourself and get rid of this anger or whatever it is that’s crippling your mind.

Drugs is no excuse for killing someone. He made a choice and yes now he has paid the price. Yet all four killings were done so he could get drugs. You cannot justify someones actions because they were on “mind-altering” drugs. That’s what is wrong with America today. People don’t want to take responsibility for their actions. Blame someone else, not me. He killed two-sets of people at two different times. You would think after the first time he would have thought about it and realized he was wrong. Nah, he gets doped up and does it again. How many more people would have to die before you would change your view? Anymore people would have been too many. I don’t wish death on anyone as I am a peaceable man nor have I ever spent a day in jail. But I am of the opinion that if you do the crime, then you should be punished.

As far as having so much “hatred in my heart” — yeah, I’m guilty as charged when it comes to all the murdering, raping, child-molesting, cop-killing, old-people kidnapping, SCUM-of-the-EARTH death row convicts. You’re right: my heart is filled with nothing but hatred. Not a single thread of sympathy, understanding, or compassion.

But because I hate them and wish them dead in accordance with the laws of our state and the wishes of the majority of its citizens…I’m on the same moral ground as someone who beat two old people to death with a bumper jack? You never took Logic in college did you? You never actually even went to college, either, did you? Do you know what a college is?

Well, for starters, I’ve never murdered anyone during the commission of a felony. I’ve never even committed a felony. I don’t do drugs. I get up every morning, and go to my job. I pay all my taxes (and probably a good share of your’s too). In short, I’m a law-abiding, responsible, and contributing member of our society.

Those aren’t the only differences (I can go outside and play anytime I want, I’m not locked in a cell 23 hours a day, I can have sex with my wife [and not just some of the guys on my cell] whenever I want, etc.). But you get the picture. You do get the picture, don’t you? No? Well, I didn’t really expect you too.

I happen to have a very close friend on death row and I believe that this person is a good man. He may have made a really stupid choice in his life but almost all of us do at one time or another. Whether it be murder, stealing, cheating, or lying….all in all they are all frowned upon equally when refferring to the ten commandments.

I am in no way saying that what my friend did was right or even okay because it was not.

I do believe that he deserves to be behind bars but who are we to decide when someone’s life should end? He had no right to take a life, but we do?

Something seems a bit wrong with this picture. “Why do we Kill people who Kill people to show that Killing people is wrong?”

If you did your research before posting some of these comments you would know that it as far as the tax payers money goes, they actually pay much more for DR inmates then they do for general population. I mean let’s think about it for a minute, when someone is on DR, their appeals are rushed through the system so that the state can set a date for their execution as soon as possible. Well, when the inmate is pressed for time they need to have an attorney to take care of their cases for them. Most of these inmates have no means of hiring their own representation.

Who do you think pays for the state representation that is given to them? Yep! Thats right…you do!

By the time you go through all of these appeals, representation, court costs, etc….. well you might as well just keep them in for life because it WILL be cheaper.

It’s not like these guys are eating steak and shrimp behind bars. The money that everyone complains about paying doesn’t even get them a good roast beef sandwhich. These guys are lucky to have old peanut butter and powdered eggs.

The way I look at it… instead of whining and complaining about the rapists and murderers out there why don’t you go and drive through the projects close to where you live and help some of these young kids get off the streets so that they won’t go that direction. There is no such thing as a bad person, only bad choices. More than half of these men on DR are not a threat to our society. At least the men on DR have made their peace and even asked for forgiveness. They will have a place in heaven.

What about those of you out there that actually believe that capital punishment is right? You all have murder on your mind and really believe that it’s okay to think that way because the state says it’s okay. If anything, people should be praying for you, not the inmates.

I guess that’s how you define “rushed.” The average length on death row is 10.24 years. Actually, it is higher if you factor in Sterling who was on death row for 16.5 years. It is incredible for you to say 10+ years is rushed.

Well, when the inmate is pressed for time they need to have an attorney to take care of their cases for them. Most of these inmates have no means of hiring their own representation.

They need an attorney for their appeal, rushed or not. They are provided an attorney for their appeals. They are not provided an atty for writs. However, there are plenty of organizations that supply free representation. You sure don’t seem to know much about the dp.

Just to clear up a few things, I talked with my mom earlier today and she did say that Sterling did say those things as reported. But what you don’t know is he was speaking off the record before he received the injection.

The news media only reports what happens after the warden asks the inmate if he has any last statements or requests. Sterling did say the things I earlier stated. He was asking the warden Can I hear them, Can they hear me?? He also stated the my stepdad and his other brothers and sisters have been misled and lied to all these years.

My stepdad also stated that Sterling was laying on the gurney with his face staring at the window to the room where the family was to watch from as if he was waiting on them.

2 I agree with you. There’s a big difference between us law-abiding citizens and those that have chosen the path of destruction and those that support these murderers.

We go to work, provide for our families, pay our bills, and try to live peaceable lives. The others inflict pain, hurt, emotional trauma, and death on their victims and families and then justify it by saying, I was on drugs. Hello!! It’s been a known fact since as far as I can remember that drugs are mind-altering!! And then their supporters try to minimze these deaths as bad choices or mistakes.

They took something that they cannot give back - LIFE!! I don’t know why they think these murderers deserve to live, even if it is in a prison. These guys, if they behaved themselves, would then be able to get a weekly visit by their family members and friends. But that is something the victims family will never get to experience again.

Mike Graczyk, the reporter who is routinely present at executions and wrote the story on Sterling, has wandered into Robbie’s comment section before. I would like to hear from again about this subject. Is this his practice? Doesn’t it give a false impression of the murderer?

I’m not sure what he would mean by your family being misled. Is he claiming innocence? Ha! Is he arguing that you will gain nothing by his death? How would he know? I hate to inform you if you don’t already know, this creep had the luxury of getting married.

BP, Check this out!! NEWSFLASH!! Gary Sterling killed himself when he killed my step grand-dad and the 3 other people. He put himself on DR. The laws were already there. The GOVERNOR didn’t just put this law into effect to get votes. If he hadn’t done these heinous crimes he would still be alive. Yes he confessed but that doesn’t bring back the 2 WHITE people AND the 2 BLACK people he killed. He has now paid the price and we can all now get on with our lives.

2, I know what you were looking for and I was hoping I could find something to validate what my family was saying. I just wanted to pass that info along as well when I came across it. My family was even told by the prison officials there that the media would only report on what was said after the warden asked Sterling if he had any final statements or requests. They had to spend the entire day down there with prison officials. Anyways, it’s over and done and now we can get on with the rest of our lives. Thanks for listening/reading!!

If you truly do believe that those who support the execution of such animals are the moral equivalent of those who are on death row, then I pose to you the following hypothetical:

If you had to send your 10-year old son or daughter to live with a law-abiding citizen who supports the death penatly for a week, or with Joseph Edward Duncan III? Who would you choose? Or, if you had to send your 16 year old daughter to live with a law-abiding death penatly supporter for a weekend, or with Jose Medellin instead?

That you can draw those kinds of comparisons in your mind speaks volumns about your complete lack of reasoning or moral judement.

I don’t even know where to begin. First of all Gary was my uncle!
John, I want to say that I am so sorry about your family member and everyone else that was involved. You all have the right to be angy. Your family isn’t the only one that suffered from this though. Do you feel better or are you relieved now that he is dead? If so then you deserve that. Has that brought the person that you lost back? I know there are times that you may wish this or wish that but I don’t wish my uncle back. I’m not trying to be rude, protect him, apologize for what he did or anything but what he did isn’t going to change anything. Your family just like mine will still be empty of that person. Robbie and 2, I am so shocked that people have so much hate and anger toward others. “Judge and you to shall be judge.” If you hate how can you forgive? ” And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your father in heaven may also forgive you in your trespasses. But if you do not forgive neither will your fatherin heaven forgive you of your trespasses.” You guys seem to surround yourself with worldly laws and visions but if God can forgive why can’t you? he didn’t say he would have someone else do it

Why do you murder lovers always argue that execution does not bring the victim back? Does lwop?

And please don’t compare your family’s lost to that of the victim’s family. It is offensive. And can the hate and anger meme. It was your uncle who was full of vile hate and anger. Your scum of an uncle beat four elderly people to death and had no intentions of stopping. He was a murderer and a coward. Yet, you chide us as being angry and full of hate. Idiot.

Frankly, if I did what Sterling did, I would not deserve God’s forgiveness or anyone’s for that matter. Sterling “paid his debt” as you so euphemistically put it, kicking and screaming for 16 years. And you better think about the debt you will pay in the next life when you are forced to explain your extreme callousness towards the victims of your murdering uncle. You have a hell of a lot of nerve coming here and trying to confront John.

First of all 2, I was not coming to confront John. That, I would never do. It took me a while to actually post a message because I was so worried about how John would read and take it. I didn’t want to make him think that I wasn’t sorry for the heartache my uncle caused not only his family but everyone that was involved. Not once or ever did I say that the things my uncle did were right. You are right the comparisons between the lost of his family member and mine are totally different. John and his family weren’t prepared, my family and I were. We knew the day that the judge sentenced him to death that his time too would be limited by the hands of man. He took lives and that indication served that he too should have his life taken by man. However the grievance and heartache were similar in both situations. We cried for our loved one just like they cried when they lost theirs.

You can call me a murder lover or whatever becaue I loved my uncle before he comitted these crimes, after he did them and still love him today! If you did what “Sterling” did then whether you believe it or not God will forgive you. Everyone deserves forgiveness. No my uncle did not go out kicking or screaming for 16 years and guess what he was prepared for his fate because he knew he had been forgiven by a higher power.

Ephasians 4:31-” Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” Maybe you should reevaluate how you are going to expain to God the lack of following his word.

Yes, you were trying to confront John. You saw his anguished posts. You know he reads this forum. Don’t try to deny it. And who are you to tell John and the other family members of the victims that their grief is similar to yours? How dare you.

You are a murderer lover because you make excuses for murderers. And yes your slimey uncle went out kicking and screaming. He fought his execution for 16 years. Again 2 I wish you would refraim from intending that I was trying to confront John. If confronting him is what I wanted to do then I would have. That was far from what I was trying to do. I was so skeptical about making a posting the first time because i was worried about his perception of me doing so. I could care less what you or anyone else thought but I didn’t want him to take anything i said negatively. You are stuck on the same question. How can I compare my families grief to the family of the victims? I answered that in my last posting. You seem to thing that my family doesn’t have a heart, cry, feel pain, or hurt. We are human! We have heartaches and tears just like anyone else.
Not once have I made an excuse for him! I know as well as you that the things he done were terribly wrong. I could understand you saying I am a murder lover if he wasn’t a member of my family but since that is the case a murder lover is what you can call me when it comes to him. I can stand tall and proudly say “I LOVE MY UNCLE.” How do you know what his last words meant? Did he tell you? I say that because everyone has their own perception of what he could have meant. He could have been sincere by truly meaning what he said but then he could have been just patronizing the family. Who knows? I don’t! The thing is no matter what his last words were it still wouldn’t have been good enough.

You constantly say things like “you post your crap on a forum John reads in order to confront him.” I WAS NOT TRYING TO CONFRONT HIM!!!!! That “crap” is my opinion and it is valued just like your and anybody elses. “You make pitiful excuses for a murderer.” Again, I know just like anybody else that what he did was extremely wrong. I can admit that so how am I making an excuse for him? What exactly have I said to hurt or offend anyone? Is it because in this particular situation my views are totally different from yours? Should I say mean things about the murderer and his family in order to be considered a pleasent and nonofennding person? You have no need to care about me or my family. i think that you need to find out your facts cuz it cost more for one excution then to put someone away for life without parole. i think that it is crap that you put that man to death what it is goin to do for the families now… NOTHING so i think that the death penalty is complete wrong and it should be abloished.
