As we all now know, the man shot do death by the London Metropolitan Police was not caring a bomb, nor was he connected in anyway to any terrorists organizations.

Apparently, he was just an electrician on his way to work. If so, then why on earth did he run when police ordered him to stop? Why would he risk his life defying a group of armed—and poised to shoot—police officers?

According to the BBC:

The Brazilian man shot dead by police in south London, who mistook him for a suicide bomber, had been in Britain on an out-of-date visa, officials say. Jean Charles de Menezes, 27, may have run from police because of his visa situation, BBC correspondents say. The electrician had come to the UK on a student visa, which allows people to work for a small number of hours.

The London police have no culpability in this tragedy. Instead, Jean Charles is yet another victim of al Qaeda’s war of terror.

Since the people were plainsclothes officers, I have to wonder if he thought he was being attacked by a gang. There are some echoes of that Dialo(?) incident in NYC several years back. The only stray piece is that, for all its gun violence, I’m not sure if London has the same type of gang problem as NYC had.

I can understand why the police did this, BUT, I still question whether shoot to kill is always the best policy..what about people who are deaf? Or people who are retarded and don’t understand what the police may be doing? I’m sure there are other examples of people who might not stop when police yell stop, rather they run. And, even if this guy was in the country with an expired visa, etc., that’s a heck of a price to pay. This was a very unfortunate incident.

Got something you want to say?
