Thanks to a tip from Go Jack Army, I have ICE’ed my cell phone with my wife’s contact information:

Paramedics will turn to a victim’s cell phone for clues to that person’s identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt: ICE.

ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. If you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone no. of the person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly. It only takes a few moments of your time to do.

Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately. ICE your cell phone NOW!

Paramedics will not look for things of this nature, their intent is emergency care and transportation to a hospital. ID will be performed by emergency room personel theirfor this is a false rumor.

Back when I was a paramedic, nobody carried cell phones so I don’t know if they do this now or not.

But, when we were in route to the hospital it was not uncommon to try to ascertain the identity of our passenger.

Besides, I’m not really that concerned if it’s the paramedic or the ER nurse that calls my wife and tells her that I’m in the hospital…as long as someone does. And if ICE’ing my cell phone helps them to do this easier or more quickly…then what’s the harm?

Got something you want to say?
