Don’t think of it as the death penalty. It’s much more politically correct to call it an “extremely late term abortion”.

I’ll simply never fully understand how someone who claims to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ can support the death penalty. If you are in favor of the death penalty then you spit on the Savior. A true Christian man would never support the death penalty for anyone.

First of all, I’m an agnostic. Not a Christian. I don’t follow anybody’s teachings other than this Universal law: live a good life and treat people kindly, or “do unto others as you would have done unto you”. Thus, if you kill, you should be prepared to be killed.

I believe in the death penalty because I value life so much, that I think the ultimate penalty for murder should be the loss of your own life.

Karl, let me explain it to you:

I believe in the sanctity of life. That means all life comes from God, and owes its existence to Him. And we are called to act on behalf of those who are unable to defend themselves. In order to that, it is imperative on occasion to make sure that certain individuals–who have shown such a crass, amoral, self-absorbed disregard for the lives of others–are completely robbed of the opportunity to further the evil they have already foisted upon innocent lives. An easy way of thinking of it is: I choose to protect innocent lives FIRST, even at the cost of taking it from those who have proved themselves the exact opposite of innocent.

I think Jesus approves of that compromise, in this imperfect world ruled by sin.

And I have yet to meet an opponent of the death penalty who starts their argument out with the tried-and-tired-and-false statement “I don’t see how any follower of Jesus Christ can…yada, yada, yada” who ACTUALLY KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT JESUS CHRIST from a personal perspective. Perhaps if you were a Christian, it would be easier to have a meaningful discussion with you on the merits of Christianity and the death penalty.

A false Christian who uses his pronounced belief in the Savior to further his own self-righteous agenda of ignorance and hypocrisy. I am not a Christian, but I am an attorney. I make a living presenting cases to a “jury of your peers.” Most of these housewives, retired folk, and other persons come from a background of little critical thinking. Oh they try. I have not seen a jury not attempt to give 100+% to a case, but the simple fact is that these people “feel” their way to a judgment. They do not “think” the evidence through, nor do they criticize it. I have seen really STUPID decisions made by a jury.

The bottom line is this: We have innocent people in prison. We have innocent people on death row. Jurors are incompetent to make life or death decisions, and our system too often rubber-stamps convictions. We need to either end the death penalty, or admit that we execute innocent people and be willing to go to sleep at night comfortable that our government is snuffing out innocent lives.

Well, if you really are an attorney and you feel your juries do not “think” the evidence through or examine it critically, maybe the problem lies with you? Is it possible that you are just a really bad trial attorney? Just a thought.

I have difficulty believing you are an attorney, though. You’ve made numerous assertions that you can’t back up with facts, which is not very attorney like at all.
