In the face of the terror attacks in London
Today, Islamofascist terrorists tried to strike fear and weaken our resolve by attacking our closest and most loyal allies in London. Much of my day today was filled with rage. But they are wrong about Americans. And they are wrong about our British mates.
Today, cowardly terrorists attacked our allies. Later in the day my brave nephew joined the US Army.
Today, my older sister’s only son—my oldest nephew —raised his right hand and was sworn into the US Army’s delayed entry program. Next summer, after he graduates from high school, he will head to basic training and then on to AIT, where he will train to become a Combat Engineer (21 Bravo).
Today, my nephew Justin joins a proud and continuous tradition of military service in our family. My brother, SSG Marty is the recruiter that enlisted our nephew, and drove him to the MEPS Center today to swear in.
Both of my brothers and I all wore (or still wear) the uniform the US Army. My dad served in the US Navy in Vietnam. My mom’s oldest brother, Cpt. Herbert Williamson (US Army), died as result of wounds suffered in Vietnam. Our grandfather retired from the US Army as a Major General, but fought in the second World War as a young Cpt.
Today, terrorists attacked. But brave young Americans enlisted to defeat them.

And defeat them we shall.
Thanks for your service–and for your family’s service. God Bless.
Older Americans can enlist too or find ways to support the war effort. Young people shouldn’t be the exclusive human resource in this battle.
Tell your nephew thanks from a fellow soldier.
A “Hip Hip Hooray” and THANK YOU from Kansas.
