Somehow or another* I ended up on the Friends of John Kerry email list, which entitles me to personalized emails/letters from the junior Senator from Massachusetts.
On August 4, I received a letter from John Kerry alerting me to the GOPs annual summer meeting in Pittsburgh. Here’s some of Sen. Kerry’s letter:
Dear Robbie,
This weekend the GOP is kicking off its 2006 campaign cycle at the party’s annual summer meeting in Pittsburgh, with Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum playing host. What does it say about the Republican leadership that they’re putting a right-wing extremist at the center of their effort to keep control of the Senate?
I don’t know Senator Kerry — what does it say about the Democratic leadership that they’ve anointed a Left-wing extremist like Howard Dean as the chairman of the Democratic National Committee?
It says that their goal isn’t just to hold on to power, but to drag America away from mainstream values and the issues that matter to ordinary Americans.
The anti-Christian, pro-terrorist, anti-military Democratic Party thinks that they are closer to ordinary mainstream values than the Republican Party? Doesn’t Sen. Kerry realize that the reason that the Left is starting to fade into obscurity is because of how far they are moving away from mainstream American values?
Of course, most of the rest of the letter is a plea for donations to the Democratic Party. But Sen. Kerry threw two bullet points in near the bottom:
Democrats see an America where everyone has an opportunity to work hard and get ahead. Republicans see an America where the special interests get their way and families get the short end of the stick.
Democrats also favor an America where everyone also has the opportunity to not work hard, and to have the Government support them through social welfare programs instead (funded by the taxes of those who do work hard to get ahead).
Democrats see an America that is energy independent and a good steward of the environment. Republicans see an America that continues to send its hard earned paychecks to the Saudis and risks sending our sons and daughters to the battlefields of the Middle East over oil that’s beyond our control, in the hands of unstable and undemocratic regimes.
Kerry continues to belabor the Democratic talking-point that the Global War on Terror is actually a War for Oil. But in the same bullet point he points out that the region is filled with “unstable and undemocratic regimesâ€â€¦well, Sen. Kerry—at least in Iraq there is now one less undemocratic (and murderous) regime to worry about.
* I’m fairly certain that I ended up on the list because my email address was provided to them by the fine-young journos over at the BurntOrangeReport.
