Question — When is “more than half” a minority?
Answer — When you are a minority living in Texas (or California, New Mexico, Hawaii, and DC).

According to new census data, about 50.2 percent of Texans are minorities. Uh, doesn’t that—by definition—make them a majority now?
At the current rate of change, the United States should be more than half minorities by 2050.
This demographic shift, which Frey [William Frey is a demographer at the Brookings Institution in Washington] and other experts attribute to Hispanic immigration, could also lead to more bilingual education. The demand already exists and is not being addressed, said Tatcho Mindiola, director of the University of Houston’s Center for Mexican American Studies.
Here’s a novel idea, Mr. Midiola: immigrants moving to the United States or growing up in the United States could alway, you know, learn English…

NOTE: I fully and strongly support the goals of bilingual education when the goal is to help students acquire English so they can enter and succeed in mainstream classes. I do not support “bilingual†programs that are really “we speak Spanish all the time so that you don’t have to learn English and can continue to be segregated from the rest of America†bilingual education classes.

ESL programs okay, bi-lingual no. It doesn’t work. Kids need complete immersion. Bi-lingual creates a class system relegating kids to qualify only for the lowest jobs. Plus, english speaking kids were being stuck in bi-lingual classes to fill necessary quotas to guarantee the school extra funding. When the voters of California passed an initiative banning bi-lingual ed., it was the best thing that ever happened to latino kids.
Simple solution. Get rid of the illegals. Those who are legal immigrants care enough to learn English, pay taxes, pay for their health care, and live like an American. I’M SO SICK OF THIS.
I personally believe that it is always benificial to any individual to know more than one language. I was born in Galveston, Texas. My mother and Father and both of thier parents were born in San Antonio, Texas. We are all Americans. We all have good jobs and pay our taxes. But how do you think we got here to have that chance of a better life? Because somewhere down the road (my great-grandparents) came over here illegally. If that hadn’t happened, I would not be where I am today. And remember…you wouldn’t have a house or roads to drive on or retail buildings to shop at if it weren’t for illegals. I have seen very few white men sweating their asses off while building a house. Even if there were more white men out there actually doing that sort of work, they wouldn’t do it for the money that the illegals do it for. They would just go whining to thier Labor Union. Now don’t get me wrong, there are some that come here to only recieve handouts and cause problems but the majority of them just want a better life. The way I look at it (being a texan), Texas was Mexico way before it was ever a part of the United States so if you have a Problem with Mexicans, move to Alabama. Or somewhere else where your people are at. Because here, We ARE the MAJORITY and always will be. *Grin*
