Not in Byron’s Name

Janet Norwood speaks out against Cindy Sheehan

Tonight, the local Fox affiliate in Austin led with a story about a mother who lost her son in Iraq, and who has become a powerful symbol regarding the War on Terror.

But it wasn’t who you think it is.

Sitting in her living room in Pflugerville, Texas, Janet Norwood—the proud mom of Marine Corps Sergeant Byron Norwood—talked about her son who was killed during an assault on Fallujah.

She has found comfort supporting the ideals her son lived by. “Service, love of country, and respect for the flag, and freedoms,” she said. She says that’s what Byron would have wanted.

When the reporter showed a clip of Cindy Sheehan saying that she “speaks for the 1800 soldiers who were killed in this mistake of a war”, Janet Norwood smiled and said, “Well, she can subtract one from her number for sure and that would be Byron. She does not speak for us and she does not speak for our son.”

Janet Norwood also said, “I think it plays into the hands of the enemy and I think it is demoralizing in a lot of ways to our troops.”

So, if the Left believes that Mother Sheehan has an unequivocal and unquestionable moral authority to speak out against the war—what say you to Janet Norwood?

  1. Supposedly, there are 800 crosses with soldiers who lost their lives in Iraq. Who gave the Sheehan whackos permission to use their names?

  2. Nobody did. In fact, read this post by Angry in the Great White North, which details the life and death of Army Spc. Robert duSang, 24, from Mandeville, La.

Cindy Sheehan rants and raves that President Bush cannot—nay does not have the right—to use Spc. Casey Sheehan’s name. But the hypocrit that she is doesn’t mind enlisting the names of 1800 other soldiers’ names without their permission.

    As Angry said:

Do you think Robert duSang wants his name on one of Cindy Sheehan’s crosses? Do you think his family does?

That Cindy Sheehan, who epitomizes self-indulgent suffering, who has made her problems with accepting the decisions made by her adult son and the consequences of his decisions into a political movement, would take the name of Robert L. duSang and scrawl it on a paper crucifix with which to decorate her political altar makes me angry.

I went beyond anger quite some time ago.

  3. Cindy Sheehan and her followers should be given 1 way tickets Baghdad, so she can protest there, and see what happens. She is nothing but being Disgraceful, not only ot her son, but to all the Military, and their families..

  4. It is clear that the Far Left and its no propaganda piece the Modern version of “Toyko Rose” who they call “Mother Sheehan” or “The Voice of Moral Authority” has back fired on them. As the Parents and Relatives of the Volunteers who have fallen in battle tell their loved ones devotion to country, willingness to sacrifice, and belief in their Mission. The Far Left would have you believe that GW Bush and the evil NeoCons stole their children in the night, brain washed them, and sent them off to die for Halliburton. This DNC talking points is spouted off repeatedly by the Far Left.

Truth is that there are members of Congress who have family members in combat. Truth is many support the mission who lost their lives. Truth is that the Media is one of the biggest problems our Military people have with the War. Truth is it is time to put the bickering aside and deal with the War we are in. Appeasement is insanity and Cindy Sheehan’s 15 minutes of fame expired long ago.

She has been proven to be a liar. Her letter to Ted Koppel of Nightline has been found by ABC News. She has made hysterical and lunatic statements that is driving more moderate Democrats to the Right as the Left is offering no solutions except Surrender. When will these idiots get it? Surrender is not an option America is interested in? And it will increasingly isolate what is left as unreasonable, irrational, unthinking and not worthy to govern.

Sadly we need a healthy Democratic Party to be an opposition party to the Republicans to hold them accountable. At the rate they are going they will be replaced by either the Libertarians or the Green Party. As they have lost touch with ordinary Americans.

  5. You reminded me of that great photo of Mrs. Norwood hugging the woman from Iraq at the State of the Union speech earlier this year:

And regarding the newest low point: The left using the memory and honor of fallen soldiers without the permission of the family. What can you expect from people who claim an “absolute moral authority?”
