Today I Became a Republican

Scott Randolph from Tennessee has written a must-read post about the growing rift between the Left and the Right. And why/when he decided to join the Right side.

Here’s a snippet, but go read the entire thing:

I actually felt myself become a republican today. It was around 10am, when I read the latest update of the Cindy Sheehan saga in CNN.com

Then it happend. The good little democrat in me tied the little noose around his neck and jumped off the stool. He just couldn’t take it anymore.

Take what? The whining. The constant whining by the extreme left about the reasons for war, the incompetence of this administration, and how we’ve all been lied to, and how we should pull out of Iraq immediately, because, *gulp* our soldiers were in danger.

Soldiers know, when they enlist, that it is entirely possible they will be shipped out and never come home. It’s part of the job. The fact that people still walk in to recruiters’ offices and sign that piece of paper make them heroes. To imply that they are simple kids who didn’t know what they were getting into, or even worse, that they died for no reason, or an immoral reason, does a horrible thing. It strips their sacrifice of the honor that it deserves. Even though those folks sitting out there in the Texas fields claim to honor and support the soldiers, they obviously have been blinded by their own selfishness as to the real way to support them…

Mostly, I’m just really pissed off. We’re in a crappy situation, and it’s time for all of America to stand together, put on the big boy pants, and get through the next few years.

Nice job, Scott. Unfortunately, I’m afraid that the rift between the Right and the Left in this country will get worse before it gets better.

  1. Robbie,

You’re probably right about that…I just wish that the majority of the middle of the roaders out there, or even those that would put the welfare of our country ahead of their own political agendas would yell a little louder.

Or, that the media thought that was interesting enough to cover.

    best-
    Scott

  2. A: I guess you must have become a Democrat when all the righties were whining like little girls when we sent troops to Kosovo. Talk about bunch of hypocrites.

B: I hear a lot of name calling and bashing aimed at K8, but very little actual substantive arguments. She’s providing fact after fact no one is directly addressing, and asking questions no one is answering, except in empty forms of the phrase “You’re dumb.”

My favorite is the quote from traci: “Republicans provide FACTS, Democrats provide RHETORIC. ” –anyone catch the irony that that statement in itself is the most vapid piece of sub-bumper-sticker rhetoric there is? Maybe traci just made a typo and got the two mixed up, because reading this post and subsequent comments it’s clear the opposite is true.

If we speak out in opposition to a failed policy, it is because we DO put the welfare of America above our own political agendas.
