Say Hello to 43 MPG

On Tuesday—for the first time in my life—I saw gasoline being sold for $3.00+ per gallon.

So, on Wednesday I went to the local dealership and drove away on this:

My new V Star

I’m keeping the ol’ Land Rover…but at 12 MPG and fuel prices soon to be $5 or $6 per gallon, it can no longer be my daily commuter.

My new V Star, with its ~49 MPG will now fill that role.

The dealership seemed pretty busy for a late Wednesday afternoon…which our sales guy confirmed — he said that they were having a near record-level day for a week day. I have a feeling that motorcycle and scooter sales are about to go through the roof.

I found out today that one of the software engineers I work with bought a new motorcycle last night too…except he doesn’t have a motorcycle license and has never ridden a bike before.

My daughter is SO glad she kept her bug and didn’t trade it in when they bought their mini-van. Here in Kansas there is virtually no public transportation. Everybody depends on autos. People aren’t going to be able to afford to go to work. But, compared to the people in LA, MS .. no comparison.

We have seen the dawn of a new day in this Country in more ways than one. I have spent the day in tears…I’ve got to stop watching television. I can’t imagine…I truly can’t.. the misery of these people in the south and the misery for years to come.

Tell your engineer friend to be careful.

If you’re going to have the power to send our men and women to war, then you had better have been willing to go yourself.

Got something you want to say?
