Is determined by a bunch of morons

The new AP Top 25 College Football poll was released yesterday.

USC sits deservedly as number one for the 22nd consecutive week. My Longhorns are a solid number 2. And that’s about as much as I agree with the rest of the poll. I am starting to wonder if the AP voters are the same group of idiots who voted on last night’s Emmy Award winners?

Case in point: on Saturday, Michigan St. went into a hostile Notre Dame stadium and won for the fifth straight time in South Bend. The win bumped Michigan St. to 3-0 this season, and dropped Notre Dame to 2-1. Clearly, Michigan St. is a better team than Notre Dame — at least on the field.

But on the pages of the AP College Football poll, Notre Dame is ranked #16 while Michigan St. is ranked one spot worse at #17.

Similarly, two weeks ago, Iowa St. roughed up an over-ranked Iowa team. Iowa St. still has an unblemished 2-0 record, while Iowa is 2-1. Iowa St. is clearly a better team than Iowa — at least on the field.

But, once again, on the pages of the AP College Football poll, the voters think Iowa is better, ranking them at #21, and dropping Iowa St. one spot beneath them at #22.

LSU’s #3 ranking is also suspect. The Tigers are 1-0, while most teams in the country have played at least 3 games. And in that one game, LSU needed a 4th and 24 yards to go heroic TD in the games final moments to escape with that single victory.

LSU might very well prove to be worthy of a #3 ranking. But they haven’t prooved or earned that ranking yet. You have to wonder if there is a Hurricane Katrina-related sympathy vote in play here?

Any voter who placed Notre Dame ahead of Michigan St. or Iowa ahead of Iowa St. should forfeit their right to ever again vote in this poll, because they are idiots who probably don’t even watch college football.

Yeah, I’m not convinced my Georgia Tech should be #15- particularly with their QB out with viral meningitis.

If they beat Va. Tech this weekend I’ll be a believer.

As long as the Gators stay in the top 5, I’m happy.

Got something you want to say?
