Mexican Independence Day was celebrated here in Austin over the weekend, replete with a nice parade downtown.
But rather than use the event to celebrate Mexico’s Independence, local activists used it as an opportunity to protest law-abiding American citizens in favor of law-breaking illegal immigrants.
Supporters of the Texas Minutemen (the law abiding, legal citizens of the US) were confronted by pro-immigration (pro-legal and pro-illegal) activists. Department of Public Safety troopers had to separate shouting matches between the two groups, but no arrests were reported.
The idiot of the day award, though, goes to U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas):
U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, was also a part of the parade down Congress to the Capitol. He avoided the Texans for Freedom crowd, but later compared the Minutemen’s efforts to the KKK at the rally.
“Some say these Minutemen are new to Texas. That’s not really true. It’s just that years ago they used to wear white sheets,” he said.
Doggett also said U.S. border patrol officers are capable of securing the borders of the country, and amateur vigilantes who ignore civil rights only hamper law enforcement efforts.
First off, Lloyd — our U.S. Border Patrol officers are not capable of securing the borders of this state, much less the entire country. Texas has over 700,000 illegal aliens by the lowest of estimations. Most of them from Mexico.
Obviously (to people who don’t have their heads up their politically-correct asses) our Border Patrol officers have almost no control over the numbers nor the demographics of illegal entries into the US — that means it’s just as easy for an illegal day laborer or migrant farm worker to walk across the Rio Grande as it is for an entire cell of Islamic terrorists bent on blowing up our buildings to cross over.
And secondly, illegal immigrants to our country don’t have the same civil rights as citizens and legal immigrants of the U.S.
Monitoring and reporting by the Minutemen of illegal activity (let me remind you again, that these are legal, U.S. citizens) is not a violation of anybody’s civil rights. Furthermore, it’s well within their (undisputed) civil rights to do so. Or are you, Lloyd, only in favor of protecting the civil rights of illegal immigrants and not those of voting U.S. citizens? Consider your answer carefully, Congressman — remember, those that you refer to as “Klansmen” have the right to vote your ass out of office.
I’d like to invite my esteemed Congressman to a meeting of his fellow-citizen Minutemen. I’d like to see if he has the gravitas to call them “Klansmen” or racists to their faces. He might be surprised to see that these “Klansmen” are his neighbors, members of his church congregation, the guy who fixes his car, and the guy who delivers his mail.

It makes me wonder if this senator is really in touch with the problems this country faces. His comment about the Minutemen is a definate shortcut to thinking, trying to compare them to the kkk.
Then again when all you have to do during the day is spend taxpayers money and kiss *** for more, the thinking process tends to stop, as in his case.
If he really thinks there is no problem with the illegals then he should come out here to Phoenix and observe reality, then make his judgement.
