Sen. Edward Kennedy Helps Rescue Fishermen

When I first read the above headline, I thought for sure it must be a parody from IowaHawk. But then I realized it was a from a serious *cough* news agency, the Washington Post.

The Washington Post headline is (predictably) misleading. It should state that Kennedy tried (and failed) to rescue the fisherman. He tried a rescue of his own. And failed.

Luckily for the fisherman, they did not have to rely solely on the rescue efforts of Sen. Kennedy (unlike the not-so-lucky Mary Jo Kopechne). Thankfully for them, the Hyannis Fire Department was there to actually rescue the fisherman (without the help of Senator Kennedy).

I do applaud the Senator for trying to do the right thing this time…I just hope we don’t later learn that the fisherman had been at a party earlier with the Senator, who later offered them a ride back to their boat…

Seeing Teddy coming to your rescue in a boat must be a lot like seeing Jeffrey Dahmer walk past your window when your arm is stuck in a sausage grinder. The urge to act like you don’t really need help must be incredibly strong.

Wizbang has pictures, too.

The best related headline comes from Reaganites Unite: Senator Kennedy 0-for-2 in Water Rescues!
