Lies, More Lies, and Damned Lies

Yesterday, Saddam Hussein plead not guilty in his massacre trial.

Most of the Liberal Left in this country believes him, too. After all, he posed no threat to anybody (you can’t believe he is no threat and believe he is guilty of a massacre…)

Sigh. Here are some other damned lies that the Liberal Left clings to as the truth:

  • OJ Simpon said he didn’t kill anybody.
  • Mumia Abu-Jamal is innocent, too.
  • John Kerry claimed he was in Cambodia during Christmas of 1968.
  • The entire Left claims they support the troops.
  • Islam is a religion of peace.
  • The NY Times, Washington Post, and CBS News think they are fair, balanced, and objective.
  • Cindy Sheehan says it’s all about her dead son.
  • Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are working in the best interest of poor black people. And Louis Farrakhan wishes blacks, whites, Jews, and everybody else could just get along and live in racial harmony.
  • This country would be better off if we could just take more money from rich people and give it to poor people.
  • It’s our own fault that we were attacked on 9/11.

Of course that’s not true. I’m not sure if you are intentionally distorting the case against invasion for the purpose of creating a straw man or else…

Would you similarly suggest that a SWAT team pinning down gunmen holding hostages in a building similarly believe that the gunmen are no threat because the SWAT team has yet to rush the building?

Of course not, there is simply the recognition that actions have consequences. In my example it is the death of innocent by-standers. In Iraq it was, well, the death of innocent by-standers- as well as the possibility of a civil war, the distribution of Iraq’s weapons to terrorists, the recruitment of terrorists, installing a pro-Iranian theocracy, and the distraction from the fight against terrorism- particularly in Afghanistan…

To claim these aren’t legitimate concerns is reveal a recklessness that has no place near our National Security aparatus or simply hostility to the American democratic process.

(The unbearable added insult is, of course, the Right claiming the ‘high ground’ on opposition to Saddam Hussein when their favorite whipping boy-Amnesty International was calling out Saddam’s atrocities 20 years ago back when Bush/Reagan/Rumsfeld were coddling and funding the dictator.)

  2. Saddam is as defiant as ever

It wasn’t unexpected, of course. His trial took place today, though disappointingly enough, it appears to have now been ajourned until November 20.
