Saddam is as defiant as ever

It wasn't unexpected, of course. His trial took place today, though disappointingly enough, it appears to have now been ajourned until November 20.

Most of the Liberal Left in this country believes him, too. After all, he posed no threat to anybody (you can’t believe he is no threat and believe he is guilty of a massacre…)

Of course that's not true. I'm not sure if you are intentionally distorting the case against invasion for the purpose of creating a straw man or else...

Would you similarly suggest that a SWAT team pinning down gunmen holding hostages in a building similarly believe that the gunmen are no threat because the SWAT team has yet to rush the building?

Of course not, there is simply the recognition that actions have consequences. In my example it is the death of innocent by-standers. In Iraq it was, well, the death of innocent by-standers- as well as the possibility of a civil war, the distribution of Iraq's weapons to terrorists, the recruitment of terrorists, installing a pro-Iranian theocracy, and the distraction from the fight against terrorism- particularly in Afghanistan...

To claim these aren't legitimate concerns is reveal a recklessness that has no place near our National Security aparatus or simply hostility to the American democratic process.

(The unbearable added insult is, of course, the Right claiming the 'high ground' on opposition to Saddam Hussein when their favorite whipping boy-Amnesty International was calling out Saddam's atrocities 20 years ago back when Bush/Reagan/Rumsfeld were coddling and funding the dictator.)
