Daily with Amanda Congdon
When Apple introduced its new video Ipod and video-capable Itunes Music Store last week, it instantly created a much bigger market for video blogging (which is the successor to audio podcasting).
And Amanda Congdon is poised to become video blogging’s first star.
Amanda is the writer/star of the video blog (Vlog) RocketBoom, in which the easy-on-the-eyes Actress/Comedien reminds me of a blonde, scar-less Tina Fey doing the weekend news on SNL. Except that Amanda takes on stuff that I’m more interested in — blogging, the Internet, and technology.
Amanda, who appeared on NBC’s second season of The Restaurant and HBO’s The Chris Rock Show, describes RocketBoom as:
a three minute daily videoblog based in New York City. We cover and create a wide range of information and commentary from top news stories to quirky internet culture. Agenda includes releasing each new clip at 9am EST, Monday through Friday. With a heavy emphasis on international arts, technology and weblog drama, Rocketboom is presented via online video and widely distributed through RSS.
With a reported 50k daily subscribers/downloads of her dialy show, Amanda uses the last segment of her daily Vlog to run a paid advertisement — so in addition to becoming famous doing her little Vlog, Amanda stands to become rich doing it as well.
If I was going to jump into Vlogging, this is the type of show and content that I would do. Of course it would help to be blonde, a sexy female (think about all those male, lonely, geeks watching her show), and funny. I mean, if you have the choice (and you do) of where to get your daily fix of blogging, would you rather read the plain text posts of Glenn Reynolds, or watch the curvey-sexiness of Amanda Congdon?
