My wife and I finally made it over to the new Cabela’s store that opened in June down in Buda (just 15 miles south of downtown Austin), TX.
If you’re a fan of Cabela’s retail catalog (the World’s Foremost Outfitter for hunting, fishing, and outdoor gear), you would be blown away by the immensity of one of their retail stores.
We were there for about 3 hours on Sunday morning, and could have easily spent several more hours browsing.
I picked up a new Carhartt Arctic jacket for this winter (especially for riding my motorcycle to/from work), while my wife shopped for some more ammunition for her 7mm-08 Browning rifle (deer season is just around the corner).
The gun library was one of the many highlights of the store, with numerous anitque collectible rifles (think 1897 Marlins and 1876 Winchesters, etc). The $139,000 Purdy & Son’s shotgun was just out of our price range. Maybe for Christmas…
If you are a member of PETA, I strongly urge you to avoid Cabela’s. There were several hundred stuffed/mounted animals throughout the store—such as the amazing Conservation Mountain, which featured Big Horn sheep, Grizzly, Brown, and Polar bears, wolves, moose, elk, deer, badgers, racoon, and more (there is a also a trout stream running through Conservation Mountain with hundred of live trout swimming around).
