For loving terrorists more than their innocent victims

I’ve added a new category of posts here at UrbanGrounds: I’d Kick ____’s Ass

The first post in this category — I’d Kick Terrell Owen’s Ass — was written earlier this month.

But after reading this story in The Weekend Australian, I’m adding Kurt Vonnegut to the list:

Vonnegut suggested suicide bombers must feel an “amazing high”. He said: “You would know death is going to be painless, so the anticipation - it must be an amazing high.”

Yeah, I know the old fuck is 83 years-old and that whipping his ass wouldn’t amount to much more than empty violence calories…but if I ran into the terrorist-loving, unpatriotic (yeah, that’s right…I called him unpatriotic), writer, I’d invite him outside to experience the “amazing high” of having his ass whipped.

Vonnegut, 83, has been a strong opponent of Mr Bush and the US-led war in Iraq, but until now has stopped short of defending terrorism.

Stopped short of defending terrorism? No, I’d say that Mr. Vonnegut has stepped way over that line this time. Vonnegut is considered a luminary of the US literary left, so of course the morally bankrupt Left will applaud him for “speaking truth to power”. But as James Lileks puts it:

Anticipating murder for the glory of God must be an amazing high. Most people understand the emotional motivation that animates these people, but don’t spend much time on it, anymore than they wonder about the joy a child rapist feels when he has the kid in the woods. It’s one thing to consider it; it’s another to luxuriate in your considerations. An amazing high.

MORE: From Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit:

I remember an old Yale Daily News item on students’ favorite authors that included the line “a few, apparently under the impression they were still in high school, named Kurt Vonnegut.”

Heh.

Got something you want to say?
