Five Things You Didn’t Know About Me

First of all, if you’re new to this blog or have just never bothered to click the About link you could start here and here to find out a lot about me.

So here are five things not already covered in the above mentioned links:

  1. The older I get the more afraid of heights I become. But once, while living at the Houston House high-rise apartments (1995), I climbed over the guard-rail on my 28th-floor apartment’s balcony, hung from the rails (with feet dangling in the night air) and did a pull-up before climbing back over and onto the safety of the balcony. Just to “overcome” my fear of heights and prove to myself that I wasn’t “afraid”. It’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever done in my life.
  2. When I was a Junior in HS, I worked at a Steak & Ale restaurant after school and on weekends. I ended up “dating” a waitress for several months who worked there. She was 27-years old at the time. I was 16.
  3. I went to Baylor University right out of high school. Near the end of my second year, I “borrowed” an unlocked bicycle to ride my extremely drunk-ass home from an across-campus party.

The following morning campus police knocked on my door and asked where I got the bike that was sitting out in the open on my front porch. Luckily the girl whose bike (yeah, I stole a girl’s bike) I had “borrowed” did not want to press charges and was merely happy to have her bike back. However, the Dean of Men wasn’t as forgiving. I was ordered to complete an alcohol awareness program + 100 hours of community service over the summer before I would be allowed to come back the following semester.

I never went back to Baylor.

  4. I was the Honor Graduate of my 91B Combat Medic class at Ft. Sam Houston, and was one of only a handful of students to pass the Emergency Medical Technicians certification test.
  5. I lived (just slept there actually) under a bridge on the banks of the St. Joseph River in Three Rivers, Michigan for about 3 weeks during the summer of 1988.
