There was a time when Time magazine was considered a reputable and legitimate news magazine. But, with their 2005 Person of the Year issue, Time has become more like People or Rolling Stones magazines — little more than cultural variety.
Bill Gates was demonized when he was making gazillions of dollars. But now that he’s giving some of it away — he’s a “person” of the year? According to Time magazine, marrying well is now a feat worthy of being called “person of the year”.
And Bono? Sure, he should be commended for his passion for social issues. But throwing some rock concerts while helping your friends sell more records doesn’t exactly put you in my pantheon of “great people”.
Time’s blinders and global unawareness are staggering.

And the world, especially average Americans, dug deep into their wallets and hearts to help. And when we were nailed on our own shores by Katrina and Rita, we dug even deeper. The weather, and those who helped out how and when they could, are all bigger and better candidates for people of the year than a Gazillionaire and his wife who gave back .00001% of their wealth.
