From The Anchoress, in reference to today’s confirmation of Justice Alito to the Supreme Court of the United States:

The Democrats have just shown the country that their partisanship is so out of control that they are unable to govern, at all, because they cannot put it aside for a moment.

Many believe that terrorism is the greatest threat to our country. Some, like President Bill Clinton, think it’s global warming. I think that the seething and unbearable hatred that the Democratic Left (not all of you, but more than enough of you — and you know who you are) has for the Republican Right. It’s not just our conservative values they despise — they hate us. Worst yet, is they either don’t see it, or — for those that do — think it’s justified and “patriotic”.

The Democrats are running an ad attacking Bush’s State of the Union Speech. However, according to FactCheck.org, it is misleading in most respects.

You would “think” after their embarrassing past few weeks that they would at least find something factual to attack him on. Not only that, I read yesterday that the party is furious with Dean for spending nearly all the money in their warchest that they were going to use in support of candidates in the upcoming elections. I wonder how much of it was spent on this misleading ad!

It goes from bad to worse. When will the Democrat Party wise up and quit letting the far left faction dictate their agenda?

The “far left faction” the majority of the Democratic party now — Pat Robertson is the looney on the right. But he doesn’t have that much power or persuassion. On the Left, lunatics like Dean, Kerry, Kennedy, and Pelosi are running the show (via their campaign manager, Daily Kos).

their partisanship is so out of control that they are unable to govern

God, that’s nonsense. Democrat Senators were elected by their respective states to represent the will of those states. These Senators are acting well within their rights by attempting to prevent the change of direction in the court.

Is their any doubt that Alito is more conservative than O’Connor? Is their any doubt that he was nominated because of that conservativism? Why on earth is it suddenly partisan for Democrats to oppose Alito because of that same ideology?

I think that the seething and unbearable hatred that the Democratic Left (not all of you, but more than enough of you — and you know who you are) has for the Republican Right.
I’m not sure how this follows from your statement on terrorism but it’s a little silly. Take a trip down to Little Green Footballs if you want to see some stomach turning ‘hatred’. In any case, this whole hatred meme is simply more of the same cry of victimization that we hear so much from on the right- it’s just harder to find an oppressor when you control all three branches of government so you look to Hollywood and blogs of all things.

Not only that, I read yesterday that the party is furious with Dean for spending nearly all the money
Dianne, the Washington Democrats are upset because Dean has been doing as he promised: building up the state parties. They’re simply protecting their turf (anonymously, I might add).

“These Senators are acting well within their rights by attempting to prevent the change of direction in the court. ”

Regarding partisanship, Preston, do you know what the Senate confirmation vote total was for the ACLU lawyer, Ruth Ginsberg, when she was nominated by Bill Clinton to the Supreme Court? Just little facts you should check out, because it is always the democrats of late who piss, moan, and whine. As far as I’m concerned, the Democrats have the right to remain silent, and should immediately start doing so, the putzes.

Rick-
Did you know that Ginsberg and Breyer were suggested to Clinton by the ranking minority member of the Judiciary Committe Orrin Hatch? Clinton had other candidates in mind- liberals- but consulted with the minority to find a consensus candidate.

But that was when we had a President that was a uniter not a divider.

That’s not accurate, Preston.

Hatch’s committe told President Clinton that Ginsburg had the best change of being confirmed (of the names on the list supplied by the President). They didn’t suggest she be put on that list, nor did they endorse her.

That’s not what Orrin Hatch says.

In his memoir he says Clinton offered Babbitt and Cuomo as potential nominees. Hatch told Clinton that those guys weren’t going to get GOP support- had Clinton thought about Ginsberg or Breyer? Clinton said he had heard of Breyer but he hadn’t thought about Ginsberg.

Even your account contrasts with the Bush technique which was to steamroll candidates unacceptable to the opposition.

My post was quarantined.

[ed. note --- note sure how/why that happened. It didn't even go to my moderation que, but straight to the trash/spam folder. Thanks for the heads up, as I was able to restore it.]

Thanks for that link, Preston. I stand corrected. I read a different account —albeit not from Sen. Hatch himself.

I’d say that Hatch’s own words are about as good a source and link as possible.

Got something you want to say?
