Due to lack of health care professional to administer lethal injection
Sacramento, CA — The execution of convicted murderer and rapist Michael Morales was halted yesterday because:
Morales, 46, was scheduled to die at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, but it was postponed until 7:30 p.m. when two anesthesiologists, citing ethical concerns, refused to participate. The execution was called off about two hours before that.
“Any such intervention would be medically unethical. As a result, we have withdrawn from participation in the current process,” the doctors said in a statement released through the prison…[ ]
“We are unable to have a licensed medical professional to come forward to inject the medications intravenously, causing the life to end,” Crittendon said.
The doctors were not available to answer further questions as they had appointments to attend to at the local Planned Parenthood offices.

But hey, if you guys in California wanna borrow some of Georgia’s executioners, y’all just let us know. I’m sure we could have one of our “death techs” as they’re known, flown out there post haste. And failing that, we got plenty of people in our state who would “kill him myself”, if need be.
Just give us a call. We got cellphones and ‘lectricity and everythin’ now.

I think Fogel was surprised that San Quentin was going to try to go ahead with it. His asinine conditions were designed to stop it all together. One think I noticed during the governer recall in California, was how fast and easy the USDC and the 9th were willing to play with facts. It’s one thing to argue about law and contested facts, but they were construing the codes and making the most ridiculous arguments without any logic in order to stop the recall. I see the same thing here. The LI protocol is painless. Thousands of people have surgery every day while under sodium penth. The only difference is that they give you 5x more in a LI. What does he expect an anesthesiologists to detect? They are in a barbituate coma. And having a person push the drug is b.s., too. I’m inclined to send a nasty letter to Ken Starr.
