My iTunes Top 10 Most Played

Because there’s nothing more to say about the Dick Cheney hunting accident, I’ll follow the lead of Stephen Green at Vodkapundit:

Instead of randomizing, sort your entire library by how many times each song has played. This is easy to do on iTunes, but I’m not sure about other players. With my game, there’s no hiding your bad taste behind the randomizer – the cream (or spoiled milk) will rise to the top. If you’re willing to play, the whole world will know what you really like to play.

I have nothing to hide. Here’s my Top 10 Most Played Songs according to iTunes:

  1. What I Really Mean — Robert Earl Keen
  2. Good Hearted Man — Tift Merritt
  3. If I Had a Boat — Lyle Lovett
  4. Nobody Knows Me — Lyle Lovett
  5. Seven Spanish Angels — Willie Nelson
  6. John O’Reilly — Charlie Robison
  7. Old Friend — Lyle Lovett
  8. Sweet Butterfly — Stanley Smith
  9. Ballad of Copper Junction — Jeffrey Foucault
  10. Closer to You — Brandi Carlile
  11. Three Lyle Lovett* songs in the top 10? Not surprising. After watching Garden State and talking about its soundtrack, I commented to my wife that if my life had a soundtrack, it would be written by Lyle Lovett.

    * I noticed that the VodkaPundit also had a Lyle Lovett tune as his #2 most played (Cryin’ Shame)

And here are numbers 11 — 20, just for fun:

  12. Me and Charlie Talking — Miranda Lambert
  13. Amen Omen — Ben Harper
  14. Mad Mission — Patty Griffin
  15. That’s How I Got to Memphis — Kelly Willis
  16. California — Miranda Lambert
  17. Bayou Woman — Tony Joe White
  18. Tonight/You Shook Me All Night Long — Charlie Robison
  19. Johnny Too Blue — Trish Murphey
  20. This Old Porch — Lyle Lovett
  21. The Hole — Townes Van Zandt

The song playing right now, seconds before I press the Publish button: 2 Kool 2 Be 4-Gotten — Lucinda Williams

h/t to El Gato at at Swanky Conservative, who has also posted his list (The Great Escape — Elmer Bernstein at #1)

  1. Good list. We’d have a lot in common. I think “John O’Reilly” is Charlie not Bruce.

  2. You’re right. It is Charlie and not Bruce (although, I do have most of Bruce’s stuff in iTunes also — the most played Bruce Robison song I have is Angry All the Time, the duet with his wife Kelly Willis).

  3. What I Really Mean is one of my favorites… great list!

  4. That would be “Curbside Prophet” by Jason Mraz. Thanks for asking, and triple thanks for the link. :-)

  5. [...] Robbie over at UrbanGrounds, inspired by Vodkapundit wrote about the top ten played songs from his iTunes list. I figures I would give it a go too. I was as surprised as anyone else at some of these. So, in the order they appear when sorted by play count are the top ten songs from my iTunes playlist. Note that this is my “Music” playlist with excludes podcasts and any other spoken word I have. [...]
