My wonderful wife decided that this year, Valentine’s Day was going to be about me! Instead of the yearly ritual of me making her my Valentine, this year she went above and beyond to show me that I’m her’s, too.
She made dinner reservations for us at one of my favorite restaurants near downtown—but it was very early dinner, so I knew she had something else planned (she wouldn’t tell me until just before we got there). She even picked up the check.
After dinner she surprised me with basketball tickets (damned good ones, too) to the Texas Longhorns vs. Baylor Bears basketball game. She’s not a big sports fan, but we had a wonderful time.
It was kind of an homage to our very first Valentine’s date together back when we first started dating—when I took her to a minor league hockey game in Houston. Lest you think I’m not a romantic, the hockey game was followed up with a very nice and romantic dinner at one of Houston’s most intimiate Italian restaurants (Aldo’s Dining Con Amore). Oh, I also picked out a nice wicker basket, hand selected a bunch of different candles to fill it with, and wrapped it up for her V-day present.
