Last week, we wrote about Yale admitting — nay, clamoring for the privilege of admitting — Sayed Ramatullah Hashemi (the former spokesperson for the Taliban — yes, that Taliban) into their hallowed Ivy-halls.

As to be expected, Yale came under a subtantial and well-deserved heap of criticism (especially in light of the fact that Yale refuses to host an ROTC program and fought to keep military recruiters off their campus). Apparently Yale administrators don’t see the irony in forbidding the US Military on their campus because of the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in regards to homosexuals, but going above and beyond to accomodate the Taliban, who also have a somewhat more stern policy in terms of how they deal with homosexuals (not to mention the Taliban’s treatment of women).

How has the Yale administration dealt with the criticism? By calling their critics “retarded”. John Fund at Opinion Journal has the full text of the email from Andrew Surovov at Yale:

Mr. Surovov, a Yale alumnus who has worked in its development office for three years and is on the board of the Yale Club of New Haven, wrote Mr. Taylor and Ms. Bookstaber at their private email addresses with the subject heading: “Y [sic] do you hate Yale.” Here is his email in its entirety: “What is wrong with you? Are you retarded? This is the most disgraceful alumni article that I have ever read in my life. You failed to mention that you’ve never contributed to the Yale Alumni Fund in your life. But to suggest that others follow your negative example is disgusting.

Go read the entire post by Mr. Fund, as he shreds any bit of credibility that Yale thought they had in this story.

The Radio Blogger aks, “Why is Yale such an elite school again?”:

The Yale official who wrote the e-mail to two of the critics, revealed their past financial giving information in his e-mail. He also called their criticism and protest ideas terrorist tactics. Can you believe that? Yale is educating an official of a terrorist regime, one that actually employed terrorist tactics, and the mere action of trying to call the school on it, and the critics now get accused ot terrorist tactics?

Ed at Captain’s Quarters has this to say about Surovov:

Even better, Surovov claims to only have a vague awareness of the Taliban and its policies. It could be true that Yale exists on some existential plane that separated from reality in the 1990s, but otherwise, this admission is so embarrassing to the Ivy League institution as to shame everyone associated with it.

On top of that whole Taliban thing, Hashemi only has a fourth grade education. Which is good enough for Yale to not only admit them, but to offer him a special 35-40% discount on his tuition, too. I’m a veteran of the United States Army, I was in the top 10% of my high school graduating class, and scored just over 1200 on my SATs. And I doubt Yale would have even glanced twice at my application.

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin tips us to the fact — that while we’re having this little debate — that the Taliban have just killed four more Americans.

This is about as absurd as things can get. Has anyone checked to see if Mr. Surovov actually has any kind of degree, even high school? Maybe he’s a drinker. I have a feeling he may be hunting for a job soon.

Sadly — but not unexpectedly — Mr. Surovov is a Yale graduate, Class of ‘02.

Even more sadly, I doubt he’ll be looking for a job soon. In fact, he’s probably just secured himself a promotion. You know, speaking “truth to power” and all that.
