Eduarda Sotel (also known as Piolin) — a Los Angeles area DJ at 101.9 — is largely responsible for urging Mexican students to ditch school and loiter around the streets of LA in a protest of many of their and their parents’ illegal status in this country:

…any move to deport immigrants who entered illegally would be hugely disruptive: “The kids need a dad and a mom in the same house, in the same country.”

On this, Eddie — you don’t mind if I call you Eddie, do you? — we agree. The kids do need a mom and dad in the same house, in the same country. However, if moms and pops are in THIS country illegally, then the country that ALL of you should be living in is Mexico.

One thing that really gets me upset about this is that these people are not paying taxes. They dont vote, yet they use up all of our resources, by getting free care at hospitals, homeless shelters, etc. They think that they have the right to influence legislation. I actually think it might be a good idea to have these illegals enlist in the military. If they really want to be here, make them prove it by fighting for our freedom. If they complete their 4 years, then they can become citizens.

How do you suspect that they’re not paying taxes? The poor, of course, pay most of their share of taxes in sales taxes, fees, and payroll taxes- all paid by any worker, legal or illegal. In fact, if you don’t have a Social Security card you are having payroll taxes deducted from your check with no expectation of any return.

Preston — that’s mostly true about illegal workers paying taxes.

But a very large number of them are “cash” workers, and don’t pay any payroll taxes because they are not on any official payroll.

****
And for those that do have payroll taxes deducted (via a fraudulent SSN, because you can’t deduct payroll taxes against no SSN) — the dissapointment of not getting a tax return each year is heavily offset by the availability of free, world-class health care, a free education for their kids, and numerous other free social services that are supposed to be reserved for the citizens of this country.

If you’re claiming 14 dependents, they are not withholding any taxes from your paycheck.

I was looking at the Folsom Prison website the other day. They have to have different visiting days for the families of the Nortenos and Surenos because of their tendency to kill each other.

Anyway, the little shitheads blocked the streets and the freeway which in LA should be a capital offense. I heard they are ditching again today in other parts of the city.

Well, actually they’re not reserved for citizens- if you have a green card I suspect you’re allowed to send your kids to public school- but I get your point.

But on the larger picture it seems a bit perverse to me to lay all of the blame on undocumented labor upon the guy making $8,000 a year rather than the multi-million corporation that employs him.

This is going to be an interesting battle in the GOP: nativists v. corporations.

But as to the question of organization:

The walkouts, aided by cell phones and postings on the Internet hangout spot MySpace.com, drew students from across Southern California.

Oh, technology.

Today, at one high school where kids walked out, a mother is following them along in her car, stopping to jump out and yell at them to get back into school. You go, mom!

Got something you want to say?
