Let me see if I have this straight:
According to Liberals and Democrats, Congressman John Murtha (D — PA) has ultimate moral authority to criticize the military because he’s a former Marine. Murtha’s prior service gives him the authority to call the current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (and a fellow Marine) a liar in regards to the state of affairs in Iraq?
According to the Left and Democrats, Murtha is beyond criticism for his attacks on the military because of his prior military service (“How dare you call him unpatriotic! He was a Marine!”). Shouldn’t we give General Pace the same respect and regard?
No? I didn’t think you’d agree.
Then would you agree that, since I’m a former Soldier, I have an ultimate moral authority — one that is beyond reproach — to criticize Murtha for being an unpatriotic, un-Marine-like partisan hack?
Because I’m invoking that right that the Left has so freely and loosely granted to anybody on the left who has ever served.

SCHIEFFER: Now I’m going to make sure I understand. I mean, I think I understand what you’re saying, but you’re talking about a Marine and here you are an ex-Marine. This is a military man. This is not—this is not somebody, some civilian out there at the Pentagon. You’re saying you no longer believe what Marine General Peter Pace says when he says he thinks things are going well.
Rep. MURTHA: That’s exactly right. Why would I believe him with all the misstatements and mischaracterizations they’ve made over the last two years?

Campus Recruiters
It started yesterday, when I saw The American Princess’ post on how colleges have to allow military recuriters on campus. All was good with the world.

I don’t think the point was ever that you believe whatever a Marine has to say but that the modus operandi of the right- attacking the patriotism of anyone who questions the competence of George Bush as he runs this war- does not work for a man who risked his life in Vietnam then subsequently supported the military through thick and thin on Capitol Hill.
In fact the most likely scenario is that Murtha is relaying the opinions of fellow soldiers who are forbidden from voicing their opinions on our prospects in this war and what this war is doing to the all-volunteer military.
