This story I’m hearing that minority Americans were frozen out of construction jobs in New Orleans by illegal aliens is terrible.

Preston, in case you didn’t get back to the post where you cited that “5 percent of the US military is comprised of ILLEGAL immigrants” — I easily refuted that claim.

Start here (from the National Immigration Law Center, where the author of that stat claimed to have found it, but really just re-wrote the actual fact to suit her views):

Facts About Immigrant Particpation in the Military, which does state:

There were 68,826 foreign-born persons serving in the United States armed forces — almost 5 percent of those serving.

There is a difference — a huge difference — between a foreign-born persons and ILLEGAL immigrants.

Are immigrants a vital part of the US Military? Without a doubt.

Are ILLEGAL immigrants? No.

As for the “minority” American’s comment — it’s an accurate statement. The minority that he is referring to are African-Americans, Blacks, or whatever term you feel more comfortable with.

But that doesn’t negate the claim that a large group of minority workers (Black in this case) were turned away from construction jobs in New Orleans — not because they were Americans unwilling to do the job, but rather because, the “Mexicans had arrived”, often by the cramped bus load.

I stand corrected. I hadn’t thought that was the case but the fact that illegal immigrants are required to register for Selective Service and the fact that the first to die in Iraq was at one point undocumented seemed persuasive enough.

our country were born in other countries. Others are unaware that nearly all categories of immigrants — including the undocumented — are required to register for the Selective Service, even though many categories are barred from military service.

My point was just that he was dancing around what he wanted to say at the expense of clarity- exactly the charge against PC advocates. I mean minorities is often used to mean Native Americans, Asians, Pacific Islanders, African Americans, perhaps the handicapped- and let’s not forget Latinos.

In any case- I think it’s funny that that issue is being used to attack blacks for being lazy and Mexicans for being… illegal, I guess.

True. But that surely doesn’t mean that they “do” register. I’d be very interested to know what percentage of illegals register for the selective services? I’m betting it’s a fraction of a percent. At best.

They’re also required to come into our country legally, rather than sneaking across the river or hiding in the trunk of a car.

My how things have changed since Roosevelt . All a new party leader would need to do to gain the support of real AMERICANS and those who TRULY love this country that they came to be a part of is to glaringly reflect Roosevelts standards on immigration:

Debra- as Roosevelt said that there were probably 20 Italian and German language newspapers in New York City. It has happened over and over again: the first generation primarily maintains its home language, the second generation is fluent in both, the third generation may not even speak the home language.

Waving an Irish or Puerto Rican flag does not mean you love the US any the less I can assume by watching the police officers and firemen in the St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Illegals in the military you must be kidding, you must I repeat must be a legal alien to join the military. The few that were not citizens were legal residents still in the process of becoming citizens. Illegals no matter where they are from are parasites. To compare the civil rights struggle to them needs to end, I am African American and a verteran my opinion is every illegal Chineese, Bosian, Mexican every single one no matter what age should be rounded up put on a truck plane boat and sent back to the country the came from. Their faces put in the national data base this would help this country and jobs would become available to those who came here the right way.
