A Kennedy, a Car, a Crash, and a Coverup

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before

The American ThinkerAnother Kennedy, this time Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D –RI), the son of Sen. Teddy Kennedy — was driving erratically, nearly ran over a police cruiser, and then collided with a barricade. At 2:45 a.m.

When the who-are-we-kidding, we-ALL-know-he-was-drunk Representative stumbled out of his car, he said that he was in a hurry because he was late for a House vote.

At 2:45 a.m.

Right.

But there was no breathalizer test administered. But there is an inquiry as to why Capitol Police weren’t allowed to continue their investigation.

I’ll tell you why not — because he’s the son of Ted Kennedy. Hell, because he is a Kennedy.

Instead they gave the Rep. a ride home. Just like they would have done for you or me. Right.

Many on the Left will chalk this up to much-ado-about-nothing. And that the Right-osphere is just trying to sully the good name of another Democrat.

To which I say BULLSHIT. Just imagine if this exact same scenario had played out, but instead of the driver being Rep. Kennedy, the driver’s name was Tom Delay. Or Judge John Roberts, or Donald Rumsfeld.

The media and the Left-osphere would be having a feeding frenzy. RevokeTomDelay’sLicense.com would have been registered first thing this morning and plugged on the DailyKos and Huffington as the next “brave” step in “speaking truth to power”. Or some such bullshit.

Ambien has been known to have some terrible side effects similar to what was described. If that was the cause of the accident he is an idiot for not demanding a breathalyzer test that could clear his name. If Ambien or other prescription drugs weren’t the cause he should just resign from the House.

What a jerk. He’s claiming no alcohol was involved though stories are coming out that he was indeed drinking that night. He blames it on prescription drugs. So what? It’s against the law to drive while impaired by alcohol, drugs, prescription or otherwise. He’s whining that it wasn’t his fault that he was given preferential treatment, but who was trying to get out of it at the scene by lying that he was a congressman on his way to a vote?

Or Dick Cheney. And then imagine that he shot a man in the face. You’d think that was bad enough, but THEN imagine that the police, even though Cheney had been drinking with friends earlier, was not only not given any kind of sobriety test, but the local police were NOT EVEN ALLOWED to question him.

But wait, it gets worse. Then imagine that the even WASN’T EVEN REPORTED to the media until 24 hours after the fact, and it wasn’t even the Vice President who reported the incident!

The only reason this made the news is because the officers on the scene complained to the FOP who then released it to the media.

Uh…sorry, John, but Harry Whittington was available for comment. And his comments helped to determine that this was nothing more than an unfortunate hunting accident.

Just because you want it to have been something more sinister doesn’t make it so.

You know, it wasn’t like he was getting ready for bed took his prescribed dose of Ambien and the next thing woke up fully clothed crashed into a polcie barrier. He was out drinking. He should not be drinking and taking phenergan and Ambien. It does not matter that the drugs were prescribed. It is illegal to drive while impaired. For someone who has a history of drug abuse and two raging alcoholics for parents, one whose actions while driving impaired caused the death of another human being, he can hardly say he was unaware of the danger of driving while under the influence of prescription drugs and/or mixing them with alcohol.

I can’t wait to watch Cynthia McKinney flip out over the preferential treatment of a rich white boy by the Capitol Police.

As to McKinney, that was my first thought upon hearing about Kennedy. But don’t confuse the line officers with the brass. They tried to do the right thing. They also put their careers on the line by complaining to their union.

I wonder if elected Democrat lawyers will investigate his doctors and leak his medical records to the press? I wonder if the government will accuse him of doctor shopping if he has prescriptions from more than one doctor?

I wonder if the elected Democrat lawyers will openly speculate on the number of felonies he committed, based on what they read in the ‘National Enquirer’? I’m sure that somewhere in the DC jail there is a felon who will say that little Kennedy was dealing drugs in exchange for a lighter sentance. Will the Democrats find him?

No need to apologize, Robbie.

The real point I am making though, is contrary to what you are suggesting, politicians -regardless of their political stripes - generally always receive preferrential treatment from police.

I know you got all excited because a Kennedy was in a car accident, but I think a little perspective is in order, that’s all.

Kennedy apparantly got special treatment, as did Cheney.

The “pity the poor republicans” tone of your post was laughable and downright disingenous. Not that it’s the first time the Reich-wing has acted like the oppressed victim though, so whatever…

And political parties that subvert dissent, lie to the public, turn record surplusses into record deficits, out covert CIA agents working on Iranian Nukes for political gain, plant news stories in the media, make torture acceptable and destroy the environment show how truly pathetic - and Reich Wing - they are.

One further comment. Having worked for drug companies for a few years I can only imagine the hell at Sanofi Aventis this morning. Daddy Kennedy is one of the biggest foes, if not the biggest foe of the drug companies. Trust me, here’s what’s being said.

Daddy Kennedy will call for an investigation. Get the lawyers in here for a meeting pronto. Get the PMA on the phone (Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association). Nobody involved gets the weekend off. Where the hell is the PR dept? I want a plan of action and I want it by noon today!

Ohhhh, the next worst hell, the FDA! Those worthless bastards who get paid off by the big drug companies. Here’s what’s being said. Daddy Kennedy will call for investigation. In all seriousness, this was a serious personal mistake on Kennedy’s part, and he should be punished. It’s not really a political issue, any more than when Laura Bush killed someone driving drunk.

Dan, do you just make this stuff up?

Laura Bush, when she was 17 years old was in a car accident. And it did result in the death of her boyfriend. It was a tragic accident.

But according to police reports, Laura Welsh was not drunk. According to the police report, neither person involved in the accident had been drinking at all.

In Laura Bush’s case, you’re right—it’s not a political issue. It happened when she was 17. And it was nothing more than a tragic accident.

In Pat Kennedy’s story, it’s absolutely a “political” issue — we have a Congressman (from America’s storied Camelot family, noless) who is a long-time drug addict. Who’s out driving his car while hopped up on sleeping pills. Who then uses a Constitutional-out to avoid jail (I was on my way to a vote…).
