Walt Gaya
Michael Yon has the great story of Walt Gaya — who went from immigrant, to Soldier, to American citizen, to a baker:

I still have reservations about letting non-citizens serve in our military–but it’s good to know this guy played by the rules.
Jeff — when I was in basic-training, the hands-down best Soldier in my company was a non-US citizen named Jose Arzon.
Jose, who is from Puerto Rico, first spent months in San Antonio (Lackland Air Force Base, I believe) learning English. He then spent the next 4 years serving in the US Army as a Combat Medic, including a trip to Iraq for Operation Desert Storm.
Any man or woman who is willing to put on the uniform of the US Military, and then stand between our homeland and our enemies — I think they should be at the top of the list for citizenship.
As a path to citizenship, Military service is the one I most support and believe in. I can’t think of a better way to earn your citizenship or to proove your worth as a citizen.
